How does the forum know....

Post by imp75 » Tue Mar 12, 2013 12:20 pm

..... what ive been looking at online?

I have been looking at websites about Jersey and I now see adverts at the top of the screen for Jersey Holidays. I have been looking at different financial institutions online and I now also get adverts for banks too.

If I look-up 'page 3 stunners' on google will I be able to kill two birds with one stone and have pretty ladies and tasteful cars all in one? 8)

IIRC it runs off the cookies on your computer. These are files stored on your computer each time you visit a website. simply delete them by doing a disk clean up - job done

As above, I think the ads, which are from Google, track your browsing habits.

I visited a clothing website, had a browse around, then the next day I got an email asking why I hasn't bought anything and was there anything they could do. Scary!?

That's the power of Google...

Depending upon the browser you are using you can change your settings to "do not track" or use a browser plug-in that will stop this happening. IMO firefox is the best browser for this (and this isn't attempting to start a browser wars thread)

We have a website and we can trace back to find out what customers searched to buy our products. We can see everything that they searched since they opened their browser to arriving at our website. So if they googled allsorts of stuff and hours later ended up on our site we can see the history of searches to help optimise our site. This service is provided to us by Google.
To avoid this close your browser often and start again.

It tracks via your browser - if you run Adblock Plus you can get rid of the adverts.

Adblock plus only removes ads, not cookies. Dnt or do not track is another addon, or in some cases a configuration option, that will stop you being tracked.
