Post by Taz » Sun Jun 14, 2015 9:35 pm

is there a difference between a forum and an owners club or is it basically the same thing?

I would preume a Club would normally meet at regular weekly/monthly times and have an AGM, whereas a Forum is more of a discussion board ?
A club would also have a formal list of its members and a subsscirption perhaps ?

Only guessing !

Sounds about right

There are quite a few Lotus owners clubs meeting monthly in different areas, think that's been happening for years and the Internet part is a fairly new part

The advantage of the Forum is you can be anywhere and still join in.

If it's anything like the BMW car club they have an 'official' designation with the manufacturer, which means they can offer things a forum can't - like discounted parts etc. Owners clubs also run track day calendars, proper shows (as opposed to drives out) etc.

There's a place for both really.

A quick google would suggest that there isn't actually an official 'Z4 Owners Club' I'm surprised really.

I think that's because the BMW one is a good one. No need for a separate Zed version - a bit like Porsche.

It think it would be nicer to have a specific z4 owners club rather than be with a bmw owners club

I'm sure the BMWCC offer members things they want [otherwise they wouldn't join], but you don't have to be a member to get a dealer discount

BMWCCA has direct support from BMW and offers a 10% discount on parts and accessories in the US as well as a host of other benefits.
ZSCCA is a SIG (Special Interest Group) of the BMWCCA.

I am a member of Eastern PA ZSCCA which is a club and a chapter of ZSCCA.

Joining a generic BMW owners club just doesn't appeal to me, I don't feel there's much in common between, for instance, a Z4 owner and a X5 owner other than the badge. If there was a specific Z4 owners club I would definitely be interested.

That's your choice but they organise a load of good stuff - like the Zed parade lap at the Silverstone Classic etc. Unless you've tried it and joined you'll never know.

It's nice to be a member of a club wider than just Z4's.

No doubt. I guess I'm a bit myopic when it comes to the Z4

I dunno about that , ive had 10/15 different BMWs & never felt the urge to join the club or for that matter meet up with other owners of 3,5,6 & Xseries cars that ive owned , the Z has a bit more character about it , possibly down to being a 2 seater ?
