Where do all the 'New posts' disappear to?

Post by Chris_D » Tue Nov 15, 2016 11:43 am

I've noticed occasionally that new posts just disappear off the 'new posts' page willy nilly sometimes.
Like when I used to sag off school - it would start by me sneaking out of double Religious studies for a sneaky bifter behind the bikesheds, never to be seen again on school premises for the rest of the day! The posts just disappear unless revived by the posters to that topic.

I'm sure it would be handier to have at least 2 or even 3 pages of 'new topics' to sift through as I can imagine that the particular topics would have more of a chance of being responded to over time. Would increasing the drop-off time for individual posts be a warranted request?

Anyone else feel the same way?

I assume there is a time frame set by the Mods (12 hours?) that defines a 'new post'; I guess lengthening it would help

Noticed this many times. I don't think it's based on how long the post has been up. But then I've been wrong before :) Will be interesting to hear the answer. :)

It's based on when you last visited, but not which posts you actually read when you visited. So I was online last night and my first "new post" is timed at 11:52pm yesterday.

If I had come on at lunchtime today and finished up at 13:00 then coming back in now, my new posts would only be from 13:00 onwards, even if there were posts I hadn't read earlier. Not sure how long you have to stay on to constitute a "visit" which is enough to reset the new posts.

Clicking on "unread posts" will take you to posts which you haven't actually read, and probably do what you are looking to do (as does "active topics" as you have seen).
