Awesome until you change providers and they remove your account, then you lose your picture links again... :poke:

Not if you also have your own domain name, just copy them over the the new provider in the same location and your images will be fine.

Which is something very different to the GuidoK's suggestion. Yours is just another method of hosting files somewhere else, and as much at the whim of external influences as any other image hosting system.

The key point that Spectre is 1000% correct in stating is that hot-linking images you post from elsewhere does not help the forum. At some stage there may be circumstances that the hot linked images are lost and yet more threads are rendered almost useless.

I was looking at the entry threads for our monthly photo contests and there are now months where over 50% of the photos entered are gone. This is one of the reasons that you should upload your photo here and not by a link to another site. This is also the reason that when I make the voting thread I copy all entries and upload them here. This way all the pictures in the voting thread will remain.

True, but I've been with the same provider for over 18 years now... One that has been voted best provider years on end.

Thats way way longer than photobucket exists or imgur or average free hosters exists. many have come and gone in those years.
Maybe google drive will be a free very steady player in the field in years to come. (although I use microsoft onedrive more than google drive I think...)
But most of all I like using the speed and ease of an FTP client.
Web interfaces usually lack possibilities or speed or batch processing etc. FTP FTW.

Just as an aside, I notice that DropBox has also stopped image linking, without offering an alternative. Whilst it was never as easy as Photobucket to paste photos/images (descending into HTML tags usually), you could place images in a "public" folder and link them - Dropbox removed this functionality in March this year...

Totally 100% this if you are posting images here... Shame it has been said over and over, and people still want to link to images elsewhere. If you post images here, they should be uploaded here. Broken image links here or any forum is never gone change unless people embrace uploading images to the site. So many good articles here (and elsewhere) have been ruined by images disappearing over the years.
This is exactly the point... I 100% advocate people keeping a backup of their photos locally, on OneDrive, Flickr etc... I do the same! However, where a post contains important relevant photos that are part of the content I urge you please to upload the photo here so we can ensure the content remains in tact.
This works when posting to the forum but doesn't when trying to make it part of your signature. Or it doesn't for me at least

Photobucket pics not showing in threads? This is why I reckon.

I use 2 sites:
I use Postimage.org, which is easy to use but you do have to put up with annoying adverts.
And I have started to use Microsoft OneDrive, which is ad free and very clean and neatly laid out but is a little bit trickier to link to at first, however you soon get the hang of it.
OneDrive would be my choice if I had to pick one
Signed up to onedrive and posted some photos but struggling to see how I get them into the signature?
tbh I use OneDrive for posting pics but use Postimage.org for my signature pic, however if you've managed to post pics then just use the same method for your signature. Basically copy the embedded code from the OneDrive image and wrap it in the same 'img' tags. The only issue you may have is that the embedded code generated in OneDrive is very long and may take you over the signatures max character allowance of 255
My onedrive link for my signature was way too long and so I used Tinyurl - https://tinyurl.com/ to shorten it

Somehow, I don't think I'll be taking them up on the offer...

Latest PB act - after cancelling my £2.99 monthly subscription and not using the account for a month, they now have my account hostage: no access to photos at all, unless I pay $59.99 for a yearly subscription...
