new owner

Post by zagamuffin » Sat Nov 21, 2015 11:26 am

Hi All

just bought my first z4, have had an s2000 previously but mostly high power sierra cosworths.
Was looking between a boxster and z4 but price and ims problems on boxster frightened me off for the moment plus i got the zed for a song with a clam shell inc.

Needs a little tlc which i can sort and a good mech service.has lhd headlamps so thats the first thing i must change, handlin seems a little skittish as well so must get under it for a check, elec steering is like a yaris we used to have in that it seems snatchy.is this a known issue ????

wheels are corroded so time to upgrade these too

Sierra Cosworths eh - that takes me back - whale tails?

Zeds are becoming very affordable zaga - especially if you've got the capacity to sort out a few things

Electric steering 'feel' is a known issue. With early (pre2006) Zeds there's something called 'sticky steering' where heat can affect the freedom of movement but the biggest problem is original fitment runflat tyres which tramline dreadfully and have the steering snatchy on every uneven surface. Most of us fit non runflats - as well as being more affordable, they improve the ride quality and cut down a lot of the tramlining etc. You get used to the 'feel' of the steering and it becomes part of the character of the drive. Interestingly the ///M versions have hydraulic steering and come with non runflats as standard . . .

Very nice collection indeed.

IIRC it's called 'Magenta' on the Cossie Buzyg, it's a very nice example isn't it, and you can't beat a whaletail sierra.

Have to say I've only owned the car for over two weeks and this forum has been invaluable,

Jobs so far

Good wash,detar and polish wax

Bought and fitted new rhd halo front headlights as had lhd units (now for sale)
Deleted daytime running strip and wired halos to fade in/out on remote lock/unlock and also as drls

Fitted new led interior and exterior smds

Fitted gaptech full top system

Full alignment almost done

Removed ,sanded chrome kidney surrounds and painted gloss black, grill Matt black

Tried to fix cup holders but bits broken, prob won't use much anyway

iPhone mount and connection to be sourced

Ordering 19" rims as we speak

Service comes next
