First BMW - 2004 3.0i Z4
Hello all
So after a couple of months of searching I finally took the plunge and bought a 2004 E85 3.0i.
Loving the car so far! I somehow managed 42mpg on my drive home from a car that puts a smile my face every time I press the loud pedal It's quite an upgrade from the 1.6 Mazda 323 I was driving before!
Here's a couple of pics after a quick wash.
Jobs I've done:
Washed, clayed and sealed.
Removed, cleaned and lubed the bonnet catch. (Bonnet kept popping open!)
Found and updated the Intravee II. (Added sticky indicators / guide me home lights on lock and unlock / enabled fogs as DRL's)
I've got a couple of jobs I'm planning to do:
Add bluetooth connectivity (Probably with a parrot, although I've got the Carver system so it may be tricky?)
Replace the Vanos seals.
Retrofit Cruise Control.
Stain and protect the interior leather where it's worn.
Swap the gear knob for an illuminated one.
Swap the side lights, full beams and fogs for whiter halogen bulbs to match the Xenons.
Clean and protect the roof.
Swap the front grills for all chrome.
Compound the scratches from the windscreen.
Change the stubby antenna.

Agree with you there. Mine feels like a new car with the wheel from RoyalGrumpyowl wrote:Get that shiney steering wheel double padded and recovered by Royal wheels
Also, with the dying of the seats, can't recommend Gliptone highly enough. Great customer service.

hi and welcome!
nice tidy example and sensible mods.
any plans to upgrade your wheels? i'd be thinking at least 20mm spacers on the rears - makes a hell of a difference to the stance for not many quids...

Just had a look at their website. It wasn't something I was thinking of doing but it's definitely going to be added to the list nowGrumpyowl wrote: Get that shiney steering wheel double padded and recovered by Royal wheels

Welcome . That is no stubby, it is something in between. You either need a proper whippy or stubby ( ). As Yoda said, "Do. Or do not. There is no half try". Retro cruise, yes. Have you thought about IntraveeII?

Other cheap upgrades worth considering if they haven't been done already:
Get rid of run flat tyres
Change gearbox oil (I used 50/50 mix of Redine MTL and Redline ATF 4 as recommended by Opie Oils and a few forums)
Delete the clutch delay valve (CDV) - Makes a big difference
Personally, I love the 17 inch alloys you have (103's) and think they suit the proportions of the car better than 18's as well as giving a better ride.(I'm probably in the minority with this view).
I bought the same alloys for £80, had them refurbished and put 4 new tyres on at the same time.
