Hello from a hopefully, soon to be Z4 owner.

Buying one for my wife and I to share after her Mini Cooper S convertible was written off at the weekend (rear ended by bloke on his phone :x ). We have about £6k to spend and would welcome any help or advice on buying. I'm trying to absorb all the guidance on here so I'm settling in for a long evenings forum reading. Cheers all.

Hi welcome to the forum - sorry about the Cooper but at least you can get a Zed now

Keep asking questions or ask if you see a particular car and want opinions. Any thoughts regarding E85 roadster; E86 coupe or an E89? I found it easier once I decided I wanted an out and out roadster. Anyway enjoy yourself hunting

Welcome to the forum..

There are a few cats for sale in here at the moment, so you know what engine /transmission /colour you fancy?

I personally have an immaculate 2008 2.0 sport roadster for sale, that wants for nothing and is well priced to forum members and within your budget..

Details here ; viewtopic.php?f=41&t=101477

Got to be a Roadster, I've read a lot about the merits or otherwise of 2.0/2.2/2.5 or 3 litre versions and am leaning towards a 2.5 or 3.0 litre version. I have a very boring Ford smax, its one upside being the Volvo 2.5 turbo 5 pot lump in it (think T5) which sounds lovely. I've heard a friends straight 6 BMW engine and the power delivery and sound were similar..more smooth too.

Thanks Ducklakeview, I've seen the car in the sale section and it looks excellent, unfortunately 'swmbo' doesn't want a silver car, she could care less on the engine front so long as it has some 'go'

I would prefer a manual car but whats the story with autos..are they robust or flaky?

I know nothing about the relative robustness or auto vs manual , nor have I driven, or even been in, an auto Zed. However, that doesn't stop me having an opinion.

A longish while ago I had a 328i Coupe on a '96 plate.it was the perfect colour - black - and had the perfect interior - light grey leather, was super reliable and was certainly quick enough. HOWEVER, it had an auto box which made it rather uninvolving to drive and I never trusted it not to change up as I slowed for a corner.

Therefore, if you are leaning towards an auto then do I strongly suggest that you have a test drive in a manual to compare. I confess to being a bit old school and firmly believe that all sports cars should be manual (or flappy paddles).

Anyway, that's my lecture complete! Hope you find what you want.

And finally, don't forget to post pics within 24 hours of collection.

Welcome to the forum, I see you have begun narrowing down your search.
Lots of information here and plenty of knowledgable members. Since you don't have to trade-in then a forum Zed could be the way to go, may need a little patience for the right one to pop up though. If you see a trade one its always worth linking to it and gauging forum opinion.

Here's the forum buyers guide: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=21281&hilit=

Welcome to the forum. Have to say overall I preferred the sound of my old fiat 5 pot Turbo, to my Z4 6 pot. the low down burble was a lovely sound. Very different more visceral scream at the top end in the Zed.

For 6k there should be a decent 3ltr roadster out there waiting for you to find it. If well cared for, they take the miles really well, so don't automaticaly be put off by the leggy ones.

Hi and hope you enjoy the Forum. If you’re after a high spec mint 2.5si that’drives great with lots of extras mine will be going in PX next week so open to offers as likely to be slightly more than I’m getting. The car is in Silver Grey metallic which is darker than regular silver and looks stunning IMO.

Please feel free to call me if you want any info. For around 6K I don’t think you’ll find a better one but then I’m biased!

Just to add the 2.5si also sounds great - like a sports car should as it’s also a 6cyl engine.

Hi and welcome to the forum OP.

Sorry to hear about the Mini, but a Z4 should provide much more entertainment - especially if you opt for a 3 litre, ideally a 3.0Si! :)
Coupes because stunning!
