To wave or not to wave...?

Post by Joneeboy » Fri Dec 08, 2017 12:10 am

Its an interesting thread.
I have a landrover Defender 110, as well as the 'M' (chalk and cheese). Defender owners have got it down to a fine art form! There are different types of 'waving', from the newbie, who shows his whole hand, to the farmer who will present a forefinger and half of his second finger. But 99% of the time you will get a reaction and never of the abusive type! :D

When I used to drive an E85, id always wave or flash my lights, I guess 1 in 4 response rate, now I drive an E89 1 in 10 :(

After a couple of years of trying i just gave up, the response rate was very poor, especially from E89 owners who usually looked at me in disgust! Never once got a wave back from an E89. You could just see it written all over their faces. How dare you wave at me/associate your car with mine in your "inferior" model! :poke: In the end I just kept waving at them to pee them off!

I don't bother in any of my BMWs. I tried waving to an F80 when in my E46 and all I got was a snotty look back. Subarus on the other hand that was great - everytime and even when women driving as they had to be enthusiasts to drive a car like that

Not this E89 owner either, could be because I came from an E85, but I think it’s more likely just down to some people being miserable bastards whatever they are driving :D

I was kinda joking about the e89s. Rare as getting a wave back from an e85/6 is I have honestly never got one from an e89. I'm obviously waving at the wrong e89s!
Seriously though some of the looks I've had from e89 drivers are more of being puzzled than anything else. I'm pretty sure in those cases they don't know what an e85 is and dont realise that I'm in a z4 as well.

I must admit to being a bit bewildered by the no acknowledgment of other Z owners - we are a minority group on the roads in Uk and Europe.

To wave or not to wave...?

I find the Dutch treat me with sheer derision when I flash/wave.

Apart from this one time when a dutch-registered M roadie appeared behind me then pulled in front and gave me the left/right indicator wave. Suffice to say, I responded enthusiastically with a couple of flashes, to which with he floored it causing quite a spectacle to the other morning commuters. this was the exception to the rule though sadly.

I still wave. I don't care. I'll wave to anyone in any situation if I deem it to be wave-worthy

Depends.

I see quite a few unkept Zeds on the road (usually driven by people who just need a car for A to B driving).

I don’t show acknowledgement to those individuals...however if I see a clean Zed, with perhaps a private plate or a stubby; then I will display recognition

Saw a blonde lady in an E89 18i the other day - didn't bother!

Nobody has ever waved and nor have I ever been in the spotted section of the forum.
I suspect my cloak of invisibility would only be removed if I was someplace that I wasn’t supposed to be :D
