I normally get a wave or acknowledge about half the time for someone in the E85/6  But have to agree, only had one wave back from another E89.. maybe will change over time? Have this one teal Z3 I meet almost daily on my journey into LDN. 2 young-middle aged ladies who seem to completely ignore my Zed even stationary next to each other. Will persevere though! will get a wave one day!... or maybe a police warning about being too friendly in LDN

As a result of the comments, thanks, I’ll continue to give a wave, and hope for one back....

I wave at E85/86 drivers, some wave or flash back. Never had a response from any E89's though.. probably don't realise that the better looking E85 is related to their car :exitright: :)

Years ago I had an MGF VVC, used to wave all the time to other MG drivers, and got a lot of waves and acknowledgement back.
these days though everyone is miserable asf.

then there's the old stigma attached to Bimmer owners being the least courteous drivers on the road, maybe there's some truth in that?
but no evidence here to suggest it. ever heard the joke... "whats the most pointless job in the world?" "an indicator fitter at BMW".

Same with MX5s. Back when I got my first one in '98 almost everyone waved. These days if you try waving you are likely to get ignored at best and sworn at at worst. I've given up. These days I'll only wave at "interesting" cars. I get more response from owners of classic cars and even supercars than I do from someone driving the same car as me!

I'm a new owner, quite happy to wave, assuming I'm awake and see the other zed. Had a history of waving from my odd collection of cars in the past.

I mentioned this on the forum a couple of years ago as a Newbie. Coming from a Lotus it was always recognised that you gave a flash and sometimes you stopped for a chat. When I did this in the Zed I got zilch back and even some rude comments when I spoke to other Zed owners at petrol stations. I have flashed now on the odd occasion but mates who have Lotuses reckon its just typical of BMW owners. I think we are known as arrogant selfish bad drivers.

The issue of waving is often related to how many of the breed, who has them, etc

DVLA shows 35,000 Z4 of all types on the road in the UK.

I guess that 'the nutters' ie those active/current on various Facebook/Bulletin Boards adds up to say 3,500 if that?

So you have a 1 in 10 chance of seeing 'a nutter' versus a 9 in 10 chance of a 'non nutter'? :poke:

Therefore if you get a wave every 4 attempts your batting average is very good!

Thats against 13,000 Lotus (Loti)

Given there are 5.5 million Fords on the road, you don't see them waving much... :fuelfire:

I’m still waiting for the day I’m on the spotted thread, there’s a few forum members fairly local to me so it’s got to happen sooner or later :tumbleweed:

I’ve had a couple of brief chats with other Petrol heads that have shown an interest at the pumps... that’s always nice :D
Pretty much this, but instead of thumb up I use flash. Also yet to be acknowledged while on the road... that said I'm mostly motorway and maybe people are too busy because they're driving at extremely high, legal speeds. Well that's what I tell myself so I can sleep at night lol

I can see why bikers weave as you are a breed all of its own,car drivers are different, cosseted in your tin box wether it be a soft or tin top.Chat when face to face ,a wave is a thing of the Terry Thomas era
