3litre with a rough idle and then increases under braking...................anyone with any ideas............

Sounds like a air leak if its an early z4 it could be the throttle air intake boot
Z less again
14 E89 Z4 2.0 msport grey gone now
10 E89 Z4 3.0 Black auto now. Very sadly gone
Gone 04 E85 z4 3.0 Maldives blue smg

Vacuum leak if it increases under braking. Are the brakes heavy?

As for the brakes being heavy....... It's not something I've noticed to be honest........
