Alfisti defecting to Ze Germans

Hi all,

I am an Alfa nut who has been sizing up a Z4 Coupé for years but for varios reasons never quite got into one. I have finally taken the plunge and put a deposit down on an 07 plate 3.0 SE.

Car is in black with dark red leather, pretty low mileage (44k) and has electric memory seats, auto box with paddles and cruise control.

Bought from a local trader who has so far been very genuine and fair. Had the car inspected by the AA before I bought which flagged up some bodywork issues, both rear coil springs snapped, a minor oil leak on the gearbox, tracking and a badly worn tyre. Fog lights were also full of condensation.

With some friendly negotiation the trader has agreed to sort the springs, tyre, tracking and take off the front fogs to dry them out. Car is also due a service and MOT so he has agreed to have it serviced at BMW and get it MOT'd all within the price.

Re the bodywork we have agreed to go halves on the front and rear bumpers and a dent on the front n/s wing being sorted at a local bodyshop. The bumpers are currently quite scuffed and the wing has a small crease in it.

The only other issue is that the car only has one key, so I will need to fork out with a BMW dealer to get a spare. Seems about £150 should cover this?

Car is up for £11,500 which seems very reasonable, especially considering he has agreed to sort so many of the niggles within the price.

As soon as I have it I intend to ditch the run flats and get a set of 19" CSL style wheels on her along with a private plate. I know the CSL wheels have been done to death, but they still look sooooo damn good!

Really looking forward to collecting her and contributing to the forum over the coming months. Pics to follow!

Hi and welcome along James, you future Z sounds great :driving:

I'm not saying this will happen but a word of caution over the service, there was a thread recently where the trader did send a vehicle to be serviced at BMW but they only paid for a minor service not the one the car should have had, best to check with the BMW dealer its going to, hope that's not the case with yours obviously, looking forward to the pics

Thanks Darren. The trader told me that when enquired with BMW they have quoted him £200 plus VAt for the service so sounds like the real deal. It only neds oil and filters at this point I think.

Do you reckon I should call the dealership doing the service just to be sure?

Lovely looking Z4M by the way. I was tempted by one of those but as mine will be a daily I thought it might be a bit too hardcore and maintenence heavy.

Thank you James :-)

From the previous thread that's how the prospective purchaser found out by calling the dealer, they said it often happens that the trader ask for the minimum service to be carried out, once again I'm not saying this will happen with your car, a phone call wouldn't hurt

Hi James, welcome to the forum. Nothing wrong with being an Alfa nut, had 2 ourselves and both were lovely and unbelievably reliable(145 Cloverleaf and 159 Lusso). Lets see pics of the Alfas and the Zed when you get it.

That was on a Porsche, but agree with what you are saying.

OP, check with the seller as to what service is due as you are approaching inspection 2 territory which is a lot more than £200.

He may well just do an oil service to meet the two year requirement. No issue with that but yo might find the inspection 2 due a lot sooner tan you think.

If you post service history on here we can tell you what is required.

Hi guys, re service I have checked and it is only the oil and filter service due now.

Thanks for your interest - I've had a few Alfas. Most recent was an Alfa Spider that I modified a fair bit. It was the 2.4 JTD and post remap was putting out 250 bhp and 420 ft lbs if torque. It was a beast!

Whilst the spider has gone now, i have kept hold of my Alfa 156 V6. I bought that one for £750 and entered it in the Screwball Rally last year. I have owned some nice cars in my time, but the old 156 is my favorite. it is a magnificent car despite being worth virtually nothing. Since then I've spent a fair bit of money restoring it. She goes in for Koni springs and dampers on Tuesday. Costing me more than I paid for the car. Man maths at their best!

I'll put some pics up in a min, hang on...
