Looking forward to Z4MC ownership

Post by Tankman » Thu Jan 22, 2015 5:45 pm

No lurking here!

Just registered, having trawled the site last night. Have my heart set on Z4MC as soon as the old toy is sold. With these things, it is important to seek approval of your very nearest and dearest. Whilst looking at some rather more exotic machinery I happened upon a side on pic of a Z4M in Silver Grey and believe it is one off this site. I was hooked. Showed my lovely wife and got the nod of approval, so I will be getting a Zed just as soon as the old toy is sold.

The signature video is one of the most memorable driving days I have had. Beings as it was in a front engined, rear wheel drive, manual car, I wanted something like that for high days, holidays, hooning days with mates and possibly the odd track day. The Porsche transaxle cars are just too old and not really powerful enough for me. The daily driver has similar performance to the 944/968 so I wanted something with a minimum of 300HP. Did look at some V8 machinery but the BMW 6 cylinder has such a wonderful sound to it's silken smooth power delivery, what's not to like?

Have looked in the usual places at cars for sale and will be using this forum to help me in my quest.

Thanks

Thanks for the welcome chaps.

Having never even sat in a Z let alone driven one, I don't know enough about them to give an exhaustive spec. except to say, would like cruise for the European trips I'm fond of. Most important is condition and history. Don't mind what miles as long as it's not Millenium Falcon level. If it's loved, fettled, used and looked after that's better than a garage queen.

I think I would prefer Alpine White as first choice but am open to most colours. Yes I will travel silly miles for the right car. Will possibly try out the white one in Sheffield next week. It's possibly the closest one to me anyway.

Will keep you informed.

Thanks again

Tank

Welcome to the forum.

These things seem to be selling quite fast so if you see one you like get ready to go.

Welcome to the hunt for an MC! When you find what you are looking for, grab it with both hands as they seem to disappear quick at the moment.

I was tempted to go and view the White one in Sheffield as well, but I am still trying to decide if I like the AC spoiler on in. You will have to let us know what it is like once you have seen it. (If it's great and you are going to buy it, tell us after you have bought it so I don't swoop in and buy it myself)

Good luck with the search

Was in Mayfair yesterday and had a look at the silver one on Autotrader. Looked OK but it's the first one I've seen and the colour combo was a bit, um, corporate? My daily driver is silver with black leather. Don't really want a colour clone in the garage. Didn't take it for a test drive, couldn't be ar5ed. What benefit of driving experience would I get from tootling around Mayfair in second gear at 30mph? Paperwork was scant although it had good service history. Couple of things that would make me think, I could get better than this, were the sunglasses holder in the headlining was broken and the front PU didn't appear to be aligned correctly on the offside. The panel gap was bigger than the nearside. Wouldn't bother me greatly about if it has had some paint. What would concern me though is if the attention to detail on refitting the front bumper wasn't the best, then what else has had corners cut.

Hoping to see an Interlagos one tomorrow and get to drive it on some decent roads to make sure it is definitely the car for me.

Will keep you posted

Welcome Tankman!

I am sure your M experience will be a good one. They are monumental machines although white ones are extremely rare.

I see one has just come up on 4 Star Classics.

Might be of interest :

I'm sure the guys and gals on here will answer any questions you may have.

Welcome

Have you seen this one? http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/ ... 06/3612785
I think it seems a steal at that price if everything's correct.
Get it before Knights Garage do and stick £3k on it!

Thanks for the comment, was told by a good friend who drives in the N24 that I should have been a bit more committed at Schwedenkreuz and also at Adenauer Forst. My main goal was to drive as smooth as possible whilst carrying momentum and because of that, and the fact there was no traffic, it was one of the most memorable laps for me.
