Roof motor failure - garage recommendation in Bristol?

Post by jojojo » Sat May 14, 2016 10:02 am

Hi everyone,

So I am new here, and just purchased a Z4 58 plate.......only a 2.0l Sport but I've always wanted a roadster and FINALLY persuaded my hubby! I've had the car for 6 days- roof up and down plenty of times and have been loving it in the sunny weather we've had...........but the dreaded roof failed on me yesterday :( I am gutted having lobbied hard for a soft top zed over the TT coupe. I was opening the roof and it got stuck halfway. Gave it a gentle nudge and it fully opened but very, very slowly. Drove home and tried to close roof, but no joy. Red light on the button lights up but no movement, so I manually closed it last night. Pressed the button and it latched to close completely, but haven't tried again today.

Purchased privately so no warranty!! Help! Both husband and I have very little skills in terms of car maintenance, but I've been reading up on all you posts about motors failing/water ingress etc... Hubby has now checked drains and they are clear.

Can anyone recommend a good/reliable garage in Bristol who have experience of Z4 roof motor issues? I can see a lot of you recommend relocating the motor to the boot too.

Worried about being ripped off being a female and clueless....and feeling sad about my first Zed....

There's quite a few members of this Forum based in that part of the World, Jo - I'm a bit surprised they haven't posted already. I know myself that there are some great independent garages there but can't really recommend you one to do convertible roof-related stuff - not my forte as you'll see from my sig pics! Hopefully another kind member with better knowledge than I will be along soon. There are also a number of members who have fixed this themselves and might be able to advise.

Welcome jojojo - not a great start to roadster ownership, sorry to hear your roof troubles
I know there's a guy up in the North East but realise thats too far, hopefully someone will be along soon with a more local solution.
It might be worth editing your thread topic to something like: 'Roof motor failure - garage recommendation in Bristol area?' This may help grab the attention of those members who have had your specific problem. Good luck :)

Thanks for the replies so far! I will edit the post as you have suggested.

Wish I had researched a little more before purchasing with my heart, but I still love it! Just hoping to get it sorted without too much of a dent to my wallet :)

Hi all, I'm in Cardiff and recently bought a 2.0 E85 from a dealer in Bristol. Roof motor packed in on the warmest day of the year, due to return it for the dealer to take care of the roof, It would be good to have someone to refer him to for the motor replacement/boot relocation in the Bristol area. PM me if you can do it, cheers.
