Very happy but confused new owner!

Post by JMakka » Mon Jan 02, 2017 6:29 pm

So I've finally bought myself a while. 2.0l 2008 dark grey z4 and am very happy with it, such fun!

Though while familarising myself with all the controls I discovered a switch which wasn't on the manual and unable to find an answer elsewhere online so hoped someone more knowledgeable may know the answer!

It is the round switch above the locking button.

Thanks for your help in advance!

Welcome to the forum, we will need photos of the whole car, but to start off, that's not a standard fitted switch, all you can do is call the last owner and see if they can help. If not, press it and see what happens. Remember the photos though

Its non standard and as it didn't come from BMW it literally could be anything. Does it still light up or has it been disconnected?

When you switch it on it only lights up when the ignition is on and it then beeps intermittently. :?

I would hazard a guess at front PDC. Might be the hidden version so get somebody to walk infront of the car when you press the button.

Could be the switch for a laser jammer , sorry I meant "garage door opener"

Have a look at the front centre of the car usually just below the number plate for a box about 2" x 1" facing out.
Might look a bit like this.

So there are sensors on the front?

Yes, front and back sensors.
No 'laser jammer' though either unfortunately!

Hi and Welcome! Interesting one there! I'd go for a front sensor or some sort of aftermarket light/DLR type mod. Maybe post up a picture of the front?

It could well be a switch for a radar jammer type device. It looks similar to a kill switch fitted for one on this link to a z4 although in a different position (under the air con controls)
