New member looking for a E86 or E89

Post by Motty » Sun Jan 08, 2017 4:59 pm

Hi All,

I'm new to the forum and looking for my first Z. Can't decide on going for a E86 or E89 3.0.

It would be great to get some info from anyone who has owned both and the pros and cons of each.

Many thanks :)

Hi. I've owned both specific models. Both are great cars and as long as you buy carefully (just like with anything really ) you'll be happy.

i had high spec cars both times. To be honest, you must have a drive in both. Its down to personal choice.

E89 3.0 is more 'grown up'. But is that good? E86 is a looker and great to drive, but no roof down. Both are similar in performance.

Drive both, then tell us which one you bought! :D
Why is it that people who can't take advice always insist on giving it?

Hi, both those models use the n52 engine with the e89 a handful of horses down (due to emissions I think)
You won't notice the difference in output so it comes down to looks/feel & wether you desire a convertible or not.
Get a drive in both before you commit

Welcome to the forum. I can't comment on those models. However the top tip is to drive them both. Then buy an E85.

Welcome to the forum OP.

As smartbear said the 3 litre E89 is a few horses down on the E86, but I doubt either would disappoint!

I've only had E86s as I don't want a convertible in a country where it rains most days, and as has been said the E89 is seen as a bit more GT than Sportscar. But you really need to try to drive both and decide from there. (But ignore buzyg, you really don't seem to want an E85).

Whichever you go for I'm sure you won't be disappointed - just let us have some photos when you get one.
