I had heated seats retro-fitted and could have gone down the route of a switch on the seats but decided to replace my centre switch console with one with heated buttons (£78) plus the additional cost of the wiring loom and labour. The heated seat switch is the one on the right of the photo - front of the seat moulding. I think that all seats have some form of cover/cap/closed plastic grommet in this position. I guess that someone thought this was an easer fit than the centre console - unless this position is standard on other BMW's (this is my first) and the seats have just been swapped into my Z4 - they are Z4 pattern seats though.
