I'm new - E85 BMW Launch Car
Hi everyone, I'm Behr.
I have just purchased a nice little June 2003 E85 Z4 2.5i (M54) with pretty much all available options fitted. It was a BMW launch car so quite an early chassis number and a bit of a curiousity about it. I have been driving it for the past 10 days getting to the bottom of what it needs and wants. So far so good - new control arms and new brakes to start with along with some squeaks and niggles. I intend to fix it up and enjoy it thoroughly. It really is quite an addictive car.
I have to say that this forum has been a great resource so far and I look forward to contributing.
About me - well, I'm a serial BMW owner and basket case. Aside from the 'new to me' Z4 I currently have a 1971 BMW 2002 automatic which I have restored over the last 10 years. I have also dabbled in E21's and E30's in the past as well as most versions of M5. Most notable DIY acheivement aside from the '02 restoration is my E30 Touring which I retrofitted with an S50B30 from an early E36 M3 and got a magazine feature. My daily drivers consist of a Tesla Model S and a Mercedes CLA so a little eclectic to say the least. More on all of that another time perhaps!
I will post pictures soon and also start a new build thread to document the jobs that need doing.
Best,
Behr.

Welcome, from another relatively z4 newbie but fellow BMW fanatic. Some great current and previous cars and a history I'm envious of! Only on my 4th bmw! Sounds like you're in the right place! Would love to see pics of the e30 with the m3 lump, and the zed of course! Enjoy
Currently zedless

Welcome along behr, interesting Z as you say, perhaps one of the oldest around?!
Do you still have the e30 touring? One of my favourite cars, my uncle used to have a 325 in dark green. I can only imagine what one must go like with an s50! Inspired choice
I'm in between ciren and stroud when not in London, so perhaps not far.

So I thought I’d post a couple of previous BMW endeavours to help put my previous comments in context, and for you to realise I'm probably not quite right in the head when it comes to BMW's..
Here’s my E30 Touring. Originally it was a 325i. I fitted a 3.0 litre S50B30 from a mid-90’s M3 and a matching 5 speed Getrag ‘box.
Lots re-wiring needed to make the S50 at home. I love wiring...
Custom exhaust manifolds and steering linkages
Clocks from an E30 M3 (S14 engined) converted to work with a cylinder car
Brake servo relocated with custom bracketry
Rebuilt struts with H&R springs and Bilstein's
Rear axle rebuilt with LSD added
The finished install (photo's courtesy of Total BMW magazine)
Magazine feature photo:
Here is my 1971 BMW 2002 automatic which I've owned for over 10 years. It's undegone a full bare shell rebuild almost down to every nut and bolt in my ownership and only comes out every once in a while now. If I ever had written a build thread it would have been over 1000 pages I'm sure -
Lurking with my other basket case which definitely doesn't belong on a BMW forum! - "Voldemort"
I hope the mods don't mind this post as it's not really Z4 orientated. Hopefully I'll be able to contribute more specifically in the future with the new Z4; I'll post some pictures of it shortly. I got busy with it this weekend!
