New Z4 owner - Milton Keynes

Post by jclcr » Sun Apr 02, 2017 3:31 pm

Hi All,

I'm new to BMW cars as always had turbo VAG cars normally.
I've just picked up a 2.5si roadster and i'm really impressed on the journey home - 45mpg cruising at 70!
I decided to take the plunge and be a bit selfish with my choice of car as my girlfriend's still got a nice family car so kind of makes up for it.

Do people get their parts direct from a BMW dealer or somewhere else? I used to go directly to TPS for my VAG parts but i'm not clued up with the BMW scene yet.

I've read about the roof motor relocation which would give me piece of mind (currently works fine) is there anyone close to MK thats recommended? I've also heard the water ingress mainly effects pre facelift cars but not sure how true thats is?

Also if anyone is around MK who do you trust with your cars? I normally use Unit 18 and can't fault them but never taken a BMW to them.

Sorry if thats a few different questions but i normally know what i'm getting into and Z4 ownership is a little alien to me at the minute lol

Thanks in advance
James

Welcome along. You shouldn't have any problems with the roof motor providing you keep the drain channels clear.

Hi James,

Welcome along!

Not used them personally, but have heard good things about Auto werx in Bradville, all ex BMW with dealer level diagnostics - Ask away on the questions, there's invariably an answer not far away!

Haha I was waiting for that!
TBH i've just bought it from Adam (A5 VRX) and the cars still in the classifieds.

The miles doesnt really bother me as it's got the service history and it's clearly been looked after. I looked at a few cars at small dealerships etc but they was complete dogs with no service history and more money etc. Plus i prefer to buy from a forum where people know their cars - i'm normally hanging around on Edition38.

Adam mentioned the drain plugs have been cleared out a few times and its something i will get round to doing aswell, i wasnt sure if the relocation mod is worth doing as a pro active measure?

Anyway here is some pics after i got it home today :D

Welcome James enjoy :driving:
A lot of people buy their parts from Sopers BMW Lincoln, if you mention the forum you'll get a discount and often free delivery.
I've never had a problem with my roof ( famous last words touch wood  ) but think I may as a precaution have it moved this summer, my cars a teenager now and this'll ensure if the motor ever gives up it will be a much easier exchange.
As with the Disa valve upgrade, I did it as a precautionary measure last year.

Nice car

I use Autowerx in Bradville for my car and previous Z4, M3 and JCW Mini. So definitely worth you checking them out when needed.

I buy my available from BMW only parts from the MK BMW dealer. Mention you're a Z4 owners club member and they'll knock 10% off for you. Everything else comes from Ebay or euro car parts.

Thanks for the replies, it's good to find out about the local specialists to fall back on.
I've used autowerx for a respray on my old Leon cupra R, top job a reasonably priced at the time so will check them out.

I want to sort the 3rd brake light out asap so will check with the local BMW dealership for parts then (I've seen a seller on eBay that states they are genuine parts for £75 but want to compare prices against BMW first)

Disa valve upgrade? I need to do more reading I think...
Thanks

I've no idea about the Disa valve upgrade? Good to meet you James and hope you enjoy the car...try Quarry Motors in Sheffield for the brake light (BMW Breakers) they might be able to help you out...will miss how super clean the car is, struggling to find something to replace it

Welcome to the forum OP.

Lovely looking Roadster you have there.

I see a couple of people have recommended a specialist, but if you want an alternative on the main Forum Page under the General Heading there is a dealer feedback thread which may help you.

Weather is looking good for Roadster owners just now - hope you can make up an excuse to put some miles on your new toy! :driving:
