Newbie saying Hi

Post by GiGo » Sat Apr 29, 2017 9:10 pm

Just want to say a quick Hi.

Picked up a 2007 Z4 last week from a friend, got to say I have never been a fan, but I love it. My mate has done several things to it including lowering it and putting different wheels on it, oh and the rather loud exhaust, but hey it does sound nice. Pics below.

The Z4 isn't my first 2 seater rear wheel drive I also have this little beauty;

A 2003 0.7l Smart ForTwo.

Oh and for fun I also have this old thing I got back in 2011;

A 2002 VX220 NA

Got to say I love them all. I am very surprised at how well the Z4 handles around the bends considering all the weight is at the front and the power is from the back. The VX is very balanced and goes round a corner like it's a rails and to be honest, the Z4 is very well balanced too which I find odd, but then again I suppose you are sitting pretty much over the rear wheels which will balance out the weight a bit.

Anyway so some newbie questions;
Wind Deflector, my god I'm too used to a targa like the VX, whats the best solution for a wind deflector without paying the BMW price tag?
Whats the average MPG you guys and gals get?

Is there any organised meet ups? Over on the VX forums we organise runs and meets for the like minded to stare at the cars and stretch there legs normally involving some tight and twisties.

I'm based in Stafford, J13/J14 off the M6. Will take a took at the meets section, would be nice to meet some owners and have a look round some other Zeds.

@mr wilks, you sir are correct Vauxhall do indeed make vans too, the same as Ferrari who makes my Fiat Scudo van :rofl:

Welcome along, very nice looking Zed. Your average mpg will depend on whats under the hood, anything from 26 to 36 depending upon engine and your right foot. A 3ltr with pedal to the metal will be low 20's, but on a long Mway run and feathering it you can get into mid 40's :wink: :driving:

I've still got the VX and the Smart Car along with my 'Daily Driver' (a 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer GS4 2l)

The Z4 was a replacement to the Nissan Pathfinder, which I got for my ex, hence the reason for the change, it was just a matter of luck that my friend wanted the Pathy so I said we would do a swap with cash my way, best decision I made, a 4x4 is great fun when there is a field you can drive over, but farmers and the like frown upon that :( It is much more fun driving around the countryside rather than over it.

As for MPG I was getting 20.7 during a rather enthusiastic drive around the Peak District :) So I'll be happy with that :thumbsup:

Welcome to the forum - that is a beautiful colour blue Zed :thumbsup: . but is that a towing eye attached to the front? Does it break down often? Plenty of help on the forum if you have any problems with it.
And as others have asked, what version is it - I'm guessing 3.0si but hard to tell without a few more clues...
Cheers.

Cheers once again for the warm welcome.

The Zed is just the bog standard 2.0l, nothing special other than it's been lowered and a back box delete.

As for the towing eye in the front, no it doesn't break down a lot (I hope!), the friend I got it off is rather a fan a of the 'race car' look, he had one of the orange cloth towing eye's at the rear and TBH I kinda like the blue towing eye, better than the hole that will be there ;) I have removed the decals front and rear of the car too!
