2.2i Badge Removal

Post by Tim » Fri Aug 17, 2007 4:13 pm

Anybody got experience of removing the chrome badging prior to a re-spray job? It's stuck on, and I figure that heat treatment (hairdryer?) for a few minutes ought to do the trick...

Removed all mine the other day - heat with a hair dryer and then use some dental floss behind the badge to separate it from the bodywork. Clean up the leftover stick bits with Tar remover.

Cheers

Dental floss or fish line, saw it off then clean up with adhesive remover like goo-gone or similiar. Two minute job. Good luck, Zink

James, thanks a million. That's given me a spot of confidence :-). That's a lovely car you have: must post a pic of my own.

can just confirm how easy that is...

i've just removed mine too =)

one thing i would say tho.. i did most of mine dry, only wet it at the end when you can't get any more off as the icky glue is easier when hard.

I've already measured the gap between the badge & wing edge which is exactly 30mm; and the gap between the "2.2" and the "i" which is about 8.5mm. When I'm affixing it after the paint job, I'll use a spirit level (with the car on a level surface) and it ought to be as close to perfect as makes no difference.
