Squeezed one in again this morning !

Post by Number5 » Sun Dec 21, 2014 7:21 pm

Well, Just as I thought the Zeds were tucked up and the year had finished, we managed to squeeze one more drive in this year.

A late call and a few texts yesterday evening, managed to co-ordinate 4 of us for a final run of the year. With Mikerw427 currently "between Zeds" we let Danstarr join Spikey, Phil45110 and myself. For the first time this year, I'll concede Spikey had the right car for the weather too, as all 3 roadsters kept the roofs up all morning !

I decided to take my old trusty 2.5 rather than the 3.0 this week, so peeled of its cover and i'm glad I did. It absolutely flew today and never missed a beat.

The plan was to meet at just off the M5 at Aztec West at 07:30 this morning and we did, only to find Starbucks didn't open until 8am, so we slummed it in the lounge of the 4 star Aztec Hotel instead for our coffee !

Todays route was a pre-runner to the English Welsh meet. Up the A38 from Filton to Gloucester, over the Severn, across the Forest of Dean and back down through the Wye Valley.

There was hardly any traffic on the A38 and with long straights and short bits of dual carriageway, progress was good. we hit Gloucester in 30 minutes. We got held up a little across the Forest of Dean by an Ambulance response car, but to be fair, he was pushing on himself and then courteously let all four of us pass, when we came to a decent straight.

The Wye Valley was empty from Monmouth all the way to Tintern, with lovely dry, gentle bends and open road.

They still haven't finished the Abbey either !

The rain started lightly near Chepstow but by then we were pulling in for our Xmas breakfast.

Spikey, myself, Phil & Dan, all ready to tuck in to a Wetherspoons breakfast.

90+ Miles in under 2 hours and home by 11am. A great way to end the years Zedding.
(I dont think it will be anywhere near this quick in April with 30+ cars unfortunately ! )
