After driving up to Ben Nevis last year, this year it had to be Mt Snowdon. The added bonus. my son was coming too. So Friday evening, I was waiting out side his workplace at 5pm, with the Youth hostel (don't laugh you lot) booked and closing for arrivals at 11pm.
Turns out Friday evening traffic on the M5 & M6 takes no notice what soever of such deadlines though. So as we stopped briefly for fuel at Shrewsbury, Google was telling us we would be locked out. The A5 at night lay ahead, game on. As far as Oswestry the late evening traffic continued to frustrate. Then, turning west to Llangollen it finally disappeared and gave us a clear run and what a run it was . I've driven this road in the Zed before but never when so devoid of other traffic. Bottom line Zed 1 Google 0. We arrived with 25 mins to spare. In a very mucky looking Zed.
The next Morning we awoke to low cloud and the decision was quickly made that Snowdon could wait. What to do now? Just so happens there a place near by I'd lonnnngggggggg wanted to tick off.
After a quick look around the obligatory tourist shop. We drove just a few short miles and dug out our National trust cards to visit Plas Newydd House, where Edd kept the staff and visitors alike entertained for a couple of hours, as he tickled their elegant Grand Piano to life with a little Einaudi.
Then on to Penrhyn Castle, home of one of North Wales greatest Slate barons, apparently the locals still won't visit after a 3 year long strike, that saw their forbears staving, back in 1903.
Great Industrial railway museum at the castle too. Best bit in fact.
Then it was off back to the Hostel, via a very fine chippy.
In the morning it was the main event. What ever the weather, we were climbing Mt Snowdon.

My hidden (and some would say only) talent is that I can pronounce the name that's on the railway station!
Glad you enjoyed North Wales. We've on,y been once and it was the worst holiday we've ever had, although not all of the problems were really North Wales' fault, a lot were!
