Think it's better to keep running the M rather than keep it off the road but it's a balance with the salt and conditions :( . Just been enough rain perhaps to wash it away (??) and a period without frost (hoping the gritters haven't been out (??) to (perhaps  ) cut down on the negatives. Whatever :? , the run today was lovely and the roads so lacking in traffic it's so worth making the effort  (and doing all the cleaning on return :( ).

No balance revs req'd as still baulk ring syncro on 2,3 and 4.
Straight cut had the advantage of less axial thrust and lost energy . A very noisy gearbox that sounded knackered to the untutored ear.

So I bought a 35is with all the toys to play with.

Never knew that - imaged straight cut gears would need to mesh far more carefully :? I have heard them though and yep they sure sound noisy! :o

Headed up to Bodmin moor.
Great to see others getting out there - nice one  - some beautiful light on your photos and an exemplary parking spot

The gearbox is in constant mesh - basically all gears on the mainshaft are meshed with their other gear on the lay shaft - changing gear is best described as locking the required gear onto the mainshaft - power is then transmitted thro the lay shaft then up to the output shaft section of the mainshaft.

Now a "crash box" is a different kettle o' fish! That is when the driver had to double de-clutch and do it right!
