Germany, Austria, Italy & Switzerland Euro Trip 2017

Post by billz » Thu May 18, 2017 6:45 am

Me, Mozz (Alienz) and our good ladies are again off to Europe in 6 weeks but going further over and into Austria. this will be our 7th Euro Trip in 6 years. I have been busy planning since we got back off our last one and i have now more or less finalised the route.
We will be driving down and catching the Tunnel on Saturday and staying at the Ibis in St Omer
The Euro part of the trip will consist of the following.
Sunday drive to Trier in Germany and spend 3 nights no driving on the Tuesday this day will be for sightseeing.
https://www.myrouteapp.com/en/social/ro ... mode=share
Monday. Drive up the Moselle Valley following the twists and turns of the river,.
https://www.myrouteapp.com/en/social/ro ... mode=share
Wednesday we drive down to Hockenshwand following the 500 route as recommended by various sites
https://www.myrouteapp.com/en/social/ro ... mode=share
Thursday we make our debut visit to Austria staying in Kappl after taking in the Klausenpass in Switzerland.
https://www.myrouteapp.com/en/social/ro ... mode=share
Friday We head over to Fugen in Austria after visiting Ice Q Restaurant (In Spectre) where we will be staying for 3 nights
https://www.myrouteapp.com/en/social/ro ... mode=share
Whilst here we will be making a trip to the Grossglockner
https://www.myrouteapp.com/en/social/ro ... mode=share
Monday We then head to Livigno Italy via the Stelviopass and will be calling at the restaurant at the bottem where they do an amazing omelette ( ask brian zedwheels )
Here we will be staying for 3 nights Half Board and taking in some passes as well as some R & R
https://www.myrouteapp.com/en/social/ro ... mode=share
Thursday We head over to Ulrichen in Switzerland staying for 2 nights (as we like this Hotel) traveling via the Julier pass and Gottard pass and San Bernadino Pass
https://www.myrouteapp.com/en/social/ro ... mode=share
Saturday We head back home staying in Epinal after visiting the Pie Shop in the Gran Ballon
https://www.myrouteapp.com/en/social/ro ... mode=share
Sunday We drive to St Omer and catch the Tunnel back home on the Monday
There maybe the odd change to this but they will be very minimal
These are the Hotels we are staying at and a rough itinerary
Trier Germany 3 nights
http://www.booking.com/hotel/de/deutsch ... tal;ucfs=1&
The Black Forest 1 night
http://www.booking.com/hotel/de/cortina ... tal;ucfs=1&
Austria 1 night stop
http://www.booking.com/hotel/at/sport-g ... tal;ucfs=1&
Fugen Austria 3 nights
http://www.booking.com/hotel/at/pension ... tal;ucfs=1&
Livigno Italy 3 nights
http://www.booking.com/hotel/it/alpen-v ... tal;ucfs=1&
Ulrichen Switzerland 2 nights
http://www.booking.com/hotel/ch/astoria ... tal;ucfs=1&
We then stay in the Ibis Epinal and the Ibis St Omer both for one night on the way back to the tunnel.
The areas we are visiting are
The Moselle Valley Germany
The Black Forest Germany
Ice Q Restaurant Soelden (In Spectre) Austria
The Grossglockner High Mountain road Austria
Various passes in Austria, Italy and Switzerland
The Grand Ballon France
The Itinerary
We will leave on the Saturday the 1st July and catching the Tunnel and staying in St Omer
We have decided to stay in Trier for 3 nights. On one of the days we will drive up the Moselle the other day will be relaxing and sight seeing in Trier.
Then it will be a drive through the Black Forest before heading over for a 1 night stop just inside Austria going via the Klausen Pass. We will then take the scenic route towards Fugen and if we have time we will be visiting the Ice Q Restaurant if not then we will visit it when we stay in Fugen as we have left a day spare as we will be there for 3 nights. The other spare day will be driving the Grossglockner Pass.
After Austria we will drive to Livigno where again we will be staying for 3 nights (This is also a tax haven). We then drive to Ulrichen which is on the junction of the Furka and Nuffenen Pass for 2 nights allowing us to drive possibly the Furka, Susten and Grimsel Triangle. This area me and Maurice now know very well, as we do the Livigno area. But we will be trying some new passes that we have not had time to do in the past visits.
Then we drive to Epinal in France and onto St Omer before catching the Tunnel back on the 17th
We will be doing 4 Nights Germany, 4 Nights Austria, 3 Nights Italy, 2 Nights Swizerland and 3 Nights France
We have calculated doing between 2500 and 3000 miles depending on trips out. So we reckon around 8 tanks of fuel at an average of 55€ a tank so the fuel cost should be around 600 to 700€
Hotels Costing €975 and SF265
Tunel should come in at £160
Vignette £30
Austrian Vignette £8
I have put the prices for anyone who is planning to do something similar in the future so you will have a rough idea of the cost.
This is for a 16 night Holiday

I've done an pretty much all of where you are going, albeit by bike and have stayed in the Ulrichen hotel. It sounds like a great trip

Neuschwanstein castle and Berchesgarten and not too far off your route and well worth a visit if you get time.

Have a great time, photos are a must :)

Sounds awesome and good to see u did a budget forecast. There was someone on here recently flogging a similar package for nigh on £2k based on only one week and not including fuel and eats! :o
great to see ur coming in slightly under that for 2 weeks and including fuel and grub!
Keep us posted with plenty of pics and a final spend total if possible. Would be great if u came in under budget but i suspect not....

Yes would be nice. I reckon we wont be far off as one of the Hotels is Half Board. I have a Holiday money card that i load with Euros and Swiss Francs to cover the Hotels and evening meals and a few pints. So all we need now is to pay for fuel and any additional spending during the day

Sounds awesome. Hope yourself and Maurice have a great time.
Would love to tag along on something like this one year. Maybe next year if you're both planning another foray into Europe if I may be so bold? :D

We do try and do it each year but usually mix it up. Last year we did the Pyrenees then had a villa down on the costa blanca for a week before returning via the Pyrenees again but a different way. This year is the first time we have ventured into Germany and Austria
