Yorkshire Dales route advice
Going from Suffolk up to Newcastle via the East coast & Yorkshire Moors beginning of September, but coming back via Barnard Castle then back through Yorkshire Dales.
Question is......which route. I was going with:
Barnard Castle
Brough
Sedbergh
Hawes then I stutter........the road from Hawes to Skipton looks rather 'narrow'.
The end result is going down the M1 to Rugby to see friends.
So the best scenic run from Hawes to the M1 would be appreciated.
Any good tea rooms/stops/cafe's to aim for?
I'm also looking at stopping around Matlock/Peak District on a third night then go to Rugby the next day, again, any thoughts or routes would be very much appreciated.
Best
Nick

Not sure on day of the week or time but Hawes to Skipton is a decent route via Buckden , Kettlewell , Grassington
Decent alternative if you have a extra hour is Hawes - Ingleton ( past the Ribblehead viaduct ) then Bentham - Slaidburn ( over the moor ) then Tosside , Long Preston , Gargrave & on to Skipton .

From Hawes go down to Selside and Settle great road and scenery taking in the Ribblehead Viaduct.
If you have time then from Barnard Castle go North through Middleton Teesdale up to Alston and then take the A686 over Hartside and stop at the cafe great Northern food and the road is one of the best in England. When you get to the Peaks take the A54 to Allgreave then the road to Flash and through Longnor and then Crowdecote. Great driving roads and scenery

Avoid the A65 - it's truely awful.
Must drive roads in the dales are:
B6270 from Reeth to Muker
B6255 from Hawes to Ribblehead
B6160 from Aysgarth to Bolton Abbey
B6265 from Grassington to Pateley Bridge
It's pretty tricky to do all those in one route without doing a ton of miles but if you can do a couple you will be amply rewarded. I've been putting together driving routes in the Dales for 30 years.

I was just about to enter a request for info on the Yorkshire dales ,as we will be there for 4 days early Sept . But looks like you beat me to it so I will take on board the info posted with thanks. As the Forest of Bowland will also be near to where I will be, any suggestions for that area.

1) On the Hawes - Ingleton road take the road from High Bentham across Bowland Fell into Slaidburn , then head to Dunsop Bridge ( great cafe there next to river ) before turning right to follow the old Lancaster road which will take you past Jubilee tower - route is Abbeystead - Quernemore -Hornby & back to Ingleton
2) Hawes to Grassington find Buckden & take the turn to Hubberholme ( sign points to the George pub ) that will take you a great road back onto the Hawes - Ingleton road
3) Grassington - Pateley Bridge
4) Tan Hill , highest pub in Uk & literally in the middle of nowhere but memorable drive there
happy motoring

Just as a word of warning, North Yorkshire are probably one of the most pro active with their speed camera vans. Before you head out, heck out their website for where they will be deployed. They've just bought 2 smaller vans (like a connect) where the cameras come out of the roof, just so they can be deployed in smaller village areas.

No fixed cameras anywhere in North Yorkshire though. Mind you, the mobile ones are probably worse!
