Fabsil
Evening chaps, quick one going to re proof my roof soon. Last time I used fabsil aerosol and it was great. However I'm going to use the tin next and paint it on. Will a 1lt tin do it? And how many coats?
Just seems I'd obviously get less over spray and have to mask off as much in theory!
Any other cleaners to recommend also? I normally use AG but refuse to buy the kit when you use more if one product than the other and can't use the individually!
Thanks

Re: Fabsil
A decent APC will clean the roof far better than the AG kit and at a fraction of the price.
I would say so, not used Fabsil on the Zed yet but I would recommended 2 or 3 coats

All purpose cleaner.
I use and highly recommend Auto Finesse Verso, fantastic dilution ratios so will last a considerable amount of time.
Best bets would be eBay. Clean your car or Slimsdetailing.

You may need to dilute that a little more but should work hamarkeg wrote:Armoured Personnel Carrier. Brilliant for removing stains.

Re: Fabsil
I thought about using Fabsil as it's great on rucksacks, tents and even waterproof clothing, but didn't when I realised the solvent in Fabsil is petroleum based which is not recommended for use with butyl products, the waterproof lining of our Z4 roof is butyl. Or have I got my chemistry wrong?

Re: Fabsil
Just be aware you really need to be careful with the roof. UK spec has a triple layer 'canvas' roof and it should not be waterproofed The outer layer is designed to be porous and breathable hence use a protector like BMW or Ratopp. Keep sealers for tents and use the proper stuff. Same goes for cleaners...
From BMW:
The roof is actually 3 layers. The outer layer is itself 3 layers of poly-acryoniltrite fibres, polyethylene fibres and butyl rubber. Underneath that is a 15mm layer of insulating polyester (sound proof and warmth) and the final inner layer of polyurethane foam and polyethersulfone, for inside finish and insulation.
Personally I would simply not risk damaging a roof that needs to flex, retain colour and avoid mould for a decade or more, or be replaced at £00's, simply by using random products on it.
