Better to overlube than underlube, as that would make a right mess of the paint.

Not really - just light pressure and keep turning/rinsing the cloth, making sure it is always well lubricated

so i just use my normal water and car shampoo mix?? or do i need more shampoo than normal ??
I personally just used the same mix - The first time I used the mitt I also used a hosepipe with a spray attachment to ensure it didn't get too dry
TBH though I don't bother now, just keep rinsing and turning the mitt regularly - As it has a micro fibre cloth on the back it's surprising how much water it holds

I don't have a hose.

1. Wash car as usual - bucket, shampoo (I use Wonder Wheels) & normal mitt
2. Using a new bucket with normal amount of car shampoo wash again with clay mitt.
3. Rinse with new bucket.
4. dry as usual and polish.

Use the clay mitt the same as you would washing the car with a normal mitt, but just spend a little more time on each panel and keep it well soaked. There's no special technique, its very easy really - no need to make it over complicated.

So you don't rince off all the dirt before rubbing with a sponge and shampoo? :o

to be honest I wash my car so regularly that it never gets dirty enough to require that first rinse. I'm sure the neighbours wonder why the hell I'm washing it cos it always looks clean
Also I don't use a sponge - I use a normal Mitt after being chastised on here for Sponge action :D

Then a rinse is essential, you're right. We are in a city and the daily commute is a few miles - never sees any real dirt except in the winter on drives out in the country :driving:

I've seen people at car shows using portable 12v (possibly rechargeable) pressure washers - might be worth looking at

One tip I was given was do not use too much pressure when using the mitt especially on the corners or edges as the clay comes off and leaves a streak which has to be rubbed off and takes a little effort.

Thanks for giving me the confidence to get and use one of these. Probably the easier thing I have done with the most impact Viv
