My e89 was supplied in a bit of a grotty state to be honest so I was a bit apprehensive about looking under the bonnet-it seems it's the cleanest part of the car! Very pleased :)

Thy probably steam cleaned it, Rob. I would get some 303 in there and check all the rubbers etc. :)

Wow, what a difference! Perhaps even more telling than clean bodywork when looking over a potential purchase

Love a clean engine bay  though weirdly, some like to see an unclean bay when buying as it doesn't look like the seller is hiding any engine issues that way.

+1 on that theory.
I was actually pleased to see the patina of evenly laid dust across all surfaces in mine before i bought it. this photo was supplied by the owner on my request.
Only telltale sign of tomtwattery was from the recent oil change as can be seen from the lack of dust around the oil filler.
Much cleaner now ofc

You wouldn't go looking for oil / fluid leaks from the top would you :?
In my experience popping the bonnet to reveal a fresh + minty engine bay can only be a positive

Well ofc a clean engine bay is the preferred option as it's a sign that its been cherished and cared for.
But at least mine looked honest, if not squeaky clean.

To be fair i wouldn't judge a car by its under bonnet presentation , the 89 i bought had clearly come from a good home he just never lifted the bonnet in his 5 yrs of ownership & assumed his dealer was keeping things tiptop under there
Guess its one of those quirks that define the enthusiast from a owner , doesn't mean its any better or worse a car it just shows a certain pride of ownership

It's looking nice and tidy Rob but something isn't right, what you need is a nice 2.5 engine in that bay and I just so happen to know a decent fella that would swap you one

Same wheels on ours. I like them, really easy to clean, inside and out.
