Meguirs Ultimate Paste wax - Dried out

Post by csquire4 » Sat Feb 25, 2017 5:15 pm

I bought some of this stuff (Paid out £25 I think) , used it once and was pleased with results. However when put it away I didn't close the lid properly so when I opened it today the contents had shrunk and dried out. :headbang: :headbang:

Is there something I could add to it to make useable again ? water is the obvious option but wondering if some kind of solvent/white spirit might be better?

Expensive mistake !!

You could pour in some turps and see if it leeches back into the paste over week. Poke some holes in the paste to irrigate sufficiently.
However, if the emulsifier has evaporated off u might be out of luck.
After adding turps, add the closed tub to bucket of warm water.

it's a wax... stick it in the microwave and it'll melt into a liquid again  I've done that with my poorboys paste wax because it was cracking into bits and it's all back to shape now. Think I dumped it in for 1 minute 6 times till it melted..

Cheers guys - I've found the Safety sheet showing the 'ingredients'. I'm guessing it's the Stoddard solvent (aka white spirit) that has dried out so will try out what Chris-D suggested. It might not return it to original but should make it useable.

I wouldn't listen to Chris, he will have your car stripped of paint, he's a bit dodgy
I would either try the microwave route or better still, buy some more and put the bloody lid on next time :poke:

Uv got nothing to lose by trying to revive an expensive tub of wax and u will be happy that you saved a bit of munny in the process
Post up your findings and if it works it may become a handy tip for others in the future..

It's not bleedin straight acetone fred, you worrymongerer you!
A bit of turps well-mixed back in with a bit of heat will get back a paste consistency.
