Stubborn stain on roof - best cleaning option.

Post by Barryprman » Wed Mar 29, 2017 2:16 pm

Have several small brown stains on my roof, about the size of a 20p piece, which are proving difficult to remove with soap and water. They look like dirty water stains from a heating tank or similar. Not really sure where my Zed was stored previous to my buying her. I would prefer not to use the garage jet wash route so any suggestions would be a start. What does everyone use to clean and seal the roof?

I used Autoglym hood cleaner the other day, removed remaining algae and some stubborn stains.

I used the same last weekend albeit with a soft nail brush to shift the bad areas. My roof was bad, really bad! Not perfect now but most of the heavy stains are gone.

Hi Barry, not certain if you're asking about marks on a soft top or on a painted roof? Most things come off the soft top with a stiff brush and a vacuum cleaner - I found lots of treads on here when I did mine. Paintwork not my thing! If it is a hard top I bet someone will be along soon with a solution.

I'd also recommend the medium soft brush, vacuum cleaner and autoglym route.

Just be prepared for strange looks from the neighbours whilst you vacuum the outside of your car...

Renovo hood restorer will probably cover them, but you'll need to do the whole hood. It will look like new afterwards though.

1001 carpet cleaner and a stiff brush works wonders. However, it may need the whole roof doing (as above) because you will see how dirty the rest of the roof is. Finish with some sort of roof water repellent such a small that Autoglym stuff, Fabseal tent fabric waterproofer or similar.
