Competitive costs? I thought most dealers farm out body work.

Not that I am aware, for insurance purposes almost all if not all BMW approved bodyshops are BMW Dealers
Competitive no idea try them for a price against ant other that offer a similar service at least you have a fall back with BMW in case of bad workmanship unless you are happy with a back street job

Certainly from my experience they do, along with MOTs. They also put "dealer tax" on the bill so not sure I'd recommend a dealership. I guess the only plus point (other than the warranty mentioned above) would be haggling on quality. If it's not 100% perfect afterwards, you'd get more traction with BMW main dealer than you would with a small indie spray shop.

Steve, David (DMC63) on here had his hardtop repainted and he lives in north London. May be worth contacting him to see who he used.

Thanks mate, will see what he says. The skirts are at my girlfriends so may leave them down in Yeovil and get painted there.

Things may have changed (I think a few years ago BMW got more involved) but I've had massive rows with two BMW dealers who did truly shocking work. I'd much rather use an independent that has personal reason to take pride in what he does - and pay him a price that reflects the job you want him to do.
Coupe, KW coil overs, PSB limiters, Powerflex ARB bushes, 18" CSL reps, Aero skirts, ZHP leather knob, Whippy and proud. Probably needs a wash

That's really my point, nail on the head - I'd rather argue with BMW dealerships over work carried out than an independent. Sadly, finding a truly good independent (paint, mechanic, alignment etc) is so so difficult these days.
