Favoured leather cleaning and conditioning products

Post by kis » Sun Jul 23, 2017 11:54 pm

So I've been meaning to sort out the leather interior for a while, but I've never been sure what the best products are?

Obviously there is a trade off between product and price, I don't want to be paying ridiculous money when I can get results that are similar for £15-20 mark?

I've seen a few cleaner and conditioner (2 in 2) type product come up frequently. I'm in the mind that the two are different and so one to clean and one to condition. 2 in 1 seems "too good to be true". Obviously I'm here for guidance and reviews so if someone tells me otherwise then I'm all ears!

So what do you use? Any favoured techniques? General do's and don'ts?

I might as well add any products to definitely avoid as well - just in case!

Cheers, Kis

I must admit I use the kit that came with my leather settee and baby wipes (which contain lanolin) for spills/marks. I'm sure there are loads of makes 'specially formulated' for car seats with silly names but I can't imagine the active ingredients can't be different to stuff used on leather furniture. Works for me :)

I used autoglym cleaner and conditioner. I am always amazed how much dirt I get on a microfibres cloth on my zed and daily driver. It's easy to use so I ve never tried anything else since though so will be interested to hear others opinions

I'll be interested in this as well. I'm after a dull Matt look rather than shiney

Gliptone products are reasonable and incredibly good quality. Lovely smell too!

You'd want a cleaner and a conditioner to apply afterwards.

Link below says not to use lanolin? (Avoid products with Neatsfoot oil, lanolin, mink oil, collagen, aloe) Hmmm! I'm sure I've seen a product or two using the oils as well.

I'm sure there's a reason for it, even though it doesn't say why? I guess if it's not major then it's okay... quick wipe is different to a scrub!

This one of those 2 in 1's? I've seen this as well, I guess it's a relatively standard brand so can't go wrong!

I think I'm going down this route. Much prefer two separate "task specific" products.

Zymol leather cleaner, work it in with a soft shoe brush and wipe away the dirt with a cloth. Amazing stuff and gets rid of the shiny leather look caused by dye, dirt and sweat accumulations.
