Had an e90 2d auto a few years ago. That was built really well and would imagine the 335 is quite a beast. Standard seats are poor and would recomend msport seats.

Notorious for rattling turbo problems so listen well on both cold start / warm & when turning off . Well over £1000 to fettle
Essential to have had its services ideally more than the required intervals & with quality oil .
Lowest number of owners would appeal to me as sympathy when fluids are cold is desired .
They do have torque in abundance though

Cant comment on 335 .but i bought a 61plate 330d last yr .50000mls fbmsh with acu warranty .since june been in about 6 times .
Egr .fault then new egr .swirl flap actuators new.then new inlet manifold due to sooting up caused by other parts failing.
When it is running ok its fast fun and good on fuel
Fot all tha aggro bm have given me another 1yr warranty at my insistance . .in case the next thing is the dpf coz thats big money too
I may have just been unlucky with these probs but try and buy one with tha acu warranty save mr a fkn fortune .
Cheers M

Its a modern diesel , all the above issues are part of the package no matter the brand or model .
They need to be doing 400-500 miles a week to even think about one over petrol imo
DPFs should be removed / deleted at first sign of fault

I was doing 500 miles a week in mine and it was 2.0 so perhaps that's why it was trouble free

We have had an LCI E91 335d for about 18 months now. Bought at 89 thou, now at 121 thou.
In that time it has only needed a couple of abs sensors and the boot hatch micro switch replacing.
If it has not been done and is at around 100k or more then get the gearbox oil changed. It is a big job as it is a sealed for life unit and costs roughly £600 to do by a specialist. Just the fluid is something like £200.
MPG is good on a run, up to 48mpg taking it easy on flat motorway. Round town it is pretty terrible.
Ours has non run-flats which transforms the car.

Couldnt aggree more.tbh before getting another 1yr warranty off bmw got a price off mi local indie for a delete /bypass egr etc and remove dpf and boost to over 300 bhp.
Still may go down this route yet .

I had an 08 335d m-sport coupe, from new, all the toys, black on black.
Best car I’ve ever owned. Comfortable, plenty of interior space, well spec’ed, fast as hell, and fuel efficient. I had it 3 years and nothing went wrong at all. Had to let it go as it wasn’t family friendly with no rear doors.
Still miss it, but the arrival of the Zed this summer has eased the pain :D

Get a 335i not the d

Less torque, (but more power) and not as economical on the motorway but doesn't sound like a tractor 🚜 and if you aren't doing ridiculous mileage will be just as fun and lower cost of ownership

And as some of the e89 owners here will attest that twin turbo petrol can be tuned to ridiculous performance
