find me a car.....

Post by bluespit » Fri Dec 08, 2017 10:03 pm

lets start with this - I love my 5 series! 62 plate, 520 touring, M sport with a couple of extras. value circa £14k, just under 40k miles. Had it since it was about 6 months old.

Toyed with the idea of changing it a few times but never found anything better worth buying.

now its coming up to 5 years old in January and i've not owned a daily that old for over 20 years, it'll need an MOT, service, tax and a couple of new tyres before summer I think. That'll set me back about a grand and I'd rather put that into a newer car. (I think)

We have 6 cars between two of us and will retire soon so intend to reduce the fleet down to 4 (the Z will go last but it will go sadly). Wifey had a very nice 18 month old 4 series convertible which we will keep. The 5, the Z and our 'skip' car (mini Countrman) will all go to be replaced by something. But what????

Criteria is it has to be smaller then the 4 series yet 4 doors and a biggish boot. As its mine it also has to be 'desirable' - what ever that means, a bit of luxury or something special is important to me. I am a bit of a badge snob. I'd like something a bit SUV/chunky if possible.

As we'll keep it for about 5 years it also have to be reliable and relatively inexpensive to run, remember we'll be retired.

Budget is around £25k including my 5 series and I'm happy with nearly new.

Ive looked at an X1 but hate the auto box and its just a mini in a posh frock. I've also looked at the new Mini Countryman which is stupidly overpriced. Also looked at a tiguan which is a bit tacky and probably a bit too big. Cant have an Audi as I argue about them with my pal and if I end up buying one he'll win. (man logic)

Any recommendations?
now I'm about to have more time I've suddenly got less toys to play with!

Or maybe a Seat Leon Cupra if non-Audi VAG is OK!

Although personally I'd be after an M135i - just because! :worshipbmw:
Coupes because stunning!

Daughters just ordered an E Pace for March delivery
Interesting piece of kit. Practical, distinctive & stylish and a great alternative to the X1 and overly common Evoque (same platform, with tweaked suspension)
Jaguar F-Type 3.0 Supercharged V6 S, Stratus Grey, LSD, Active Exhaust, CF wheels, Performance brakes, Sports seats and mods ongoing
Gone but not forgotten Z4 3.0i SE Roadster ///M front, Red ///M leather seats, Aero sills

My mate pulled up in a new Tiguan the other day and I was quite impressed.

Looked at the jag, it’s big and outside my price range at under a year old

Don’t want hot hatch type, did those 20 years ago

A nicely specced 135i will be worth a look....along with the S3 as a good daily choice.

Fully understand the newness and price. Curious if you mean the E Pace as it only started to arrive at dealers last week. The F is way bigger

Ahh yes. Went to jaguar today and yes I did mean f pace.

Spent 4 hours looking at jaguar, ford, Nissan, Volvo, vw, Seat, Renault and Jeep. all within 1/2 mile so easy. Rubbish.

X1 looking favourite. 4wd, 45 mpg and under 8 seconds to 60. And it feels lik3 a bmw. But still not as good as the 5 series".........

sitting in the drivers seat the dash is a sea of black plastic - can't be doing with looking at that for 5 years

gone off the x1 too - pokey (as in too small)

How about a 3 series XDrive saloon/touring, theres a few on the Approved used site for around 25k and will probably drive better than any SUV.

Tim.

I have an f48 x1 and its good as a DD and great at ploughing up and down the motorways/a roads - other than that it is just another box on wheels and doesn't really stir the soul. I have the 2.5d and its fairly rapid which helps relieve boredom. In terms of interior space I reckon you have more useful space than a 3er estate
