Wife wants a R32 Golf

My wife's run VW golfs/polos etc for years and has decided that she fancies a late R32 DSG (4 wheel drive) Golf.

- this'll be a 2nd hand buy, probably trading in her current Golf to a VW dealer.

Other than the fact that it'll eat tyres and drink fuel (I can live with this), can anyone offer insight into ownership? Are there any good/bad stories? She only does about 5k miles per year.

Thx.

watch out for the DSG boxes, high milers had issues with them.

aside from that, they sound incredible.

shame the engine is so down on power for what it is.

Security.

Not sure where you live and never owned one, but as I understand it R32s are like catnip for car robber bad guys.

Polo GTI could be a nice alternative?

The missus had one of those, went like the clappers and looked quite cool! Don't see many on the roads either.

As above..

People are getting pulled out of R32's and S3's everywhere.....

Shame... :|

Not out in the peak district surely ? I would have one as a weekender or daily for mrs w :)
Would be more worried about the DSG blowing than getting held up in it

I have a lot of friends in Manchester/Salford and the Cheshire burbs.....

You cant do 10 miles without getting some hooded youf trying to get you out of em.. :x

After a recent thread on here, it seems it would be perfectly acceptable to get her a normal golf, and stick an R32 badge on the back.

lol  - I could tell her is a rare special edition - front wheel drive.

Always thought these were way too slow for the engine size. A 3.2l in a golf should fly but it was hardly any quicker than the 2.0l turbo in the GTi.

I always thought the same... Especially as the 2.0 was more nimble and could be had with 4motion too in the mk6.

They arent massively quick for the engine size, but they are very torquey and the power is very usuable..

One of the quickest point to point cars i have ever had was a VR6 Golf..That was after having Impreza's and an M3 beforehand...

Im not a huge fan of Veedubs anymore, and the R32 has a raft of expensive problems but i dont think that a Mk6 R32 is a decent package for the money.
