Fiesta, Swift or Polo?

I'm looking to swapping the Z3 soon for a more practical motor, i.e. more than 2 seats :? Don't want to swap the 3 but inevitiably its on the cards :( I've shorlisted 3 cars, a Fiesta Zetec S, never owned a Ford so an uknown quantity for me although it gets a good write up and looks good. 2nd is the latest Suzuki Swift Sport which I've owned Suzukis in the past and been generally good although have suffered the odd build quality problem. 3rd is the Polo a 1.4 Match, only ever owned a Passat which was bulletproof and had no problems.

The Polo will most likly be best for residuals and build etc but dull to drive. Swift Sport has had rave reviews as the best of its type but worried about potential build issues. I'm drawn to the Fiesta but never owned a Ford so unsure what I would be letting myself in for lol. I've had Vauxhalls and Pugs before but were nothing but trouble and the dealer service was simply terrible.

Would the Fiesta be a winner?

My g/f has a Swift Sport and I like it , roomy comfortable front seats and I am 6ft 3 :D , nippy and as yet no reliability issues after one years ownership, 08 with 42k on , I would have one :driving:

Thanks for the replies, oh boy 3 seperate recommendations :D

Peter is your Swift the earlier model or the latest one? I'm guessing earlier on an 09 plate. I had an 05 plate from new but it suffered from silly problems, leaking screen and suspension knock :x

I'm likeing the Polo as its German :) but it just looks a bit dull :| against the Fiesta which looks more Fresh.

Polo vote here as well as I bought the second one for my son and daughter now.

Very well build, very, very nice gear shifts and much more comfortable than the other two on your list.

Cheaper to insure as well.

Swift for me too!

Polo feels very heavy/lethargic after being in a Swift Sport.

Have you considered the RenaulSport Twingo?

Cheers, I'm afraid I would rule out any French cars full stop plus Vauxhall,

My head is saying something like the Polo but I remember when I had the Swift it felt light and was great fun on B roads so my heart is saying go for a fun car thats has some practicality, I need to be able to fit a wheelchair in the back with seats down, I've already looked at a KA  and the VW Up but theyre just a bit too small and would like a slightly larger engine.

My g/f has recently got rid of her old Z-tec fiesta and bought a 1.4 Polo 2010. If looked after the Ford is fairly reliable.
The reason for the change was that the Ford was 13 years old and so glad for her now. This Polo has all the bells and whistles. Cruise control, heated seats, heated mirrors, steering wheel controls, loads of space and hidden compartments, false floor in boot. Had 24k on clock but is like a new car especially compared to a 13yr old motor. I'm impressed with it and she absolutely loves it. :driving:

My flatmate recently bought a white Up. It's very cute. Probably not the look you were wanting Tim.

Ups are great but id buy the 5 door Seat Mii just because its better value and the front end looks a million times better.

Sadly the up has the best rear lights of the 3 and they are not interchangeable..

I'd say Polo. Good residuals, reliable, and the best looking of the three

I think the Polo is the most grown up of the 3 and the boot looks to be more useable and overall its probably the best buy for the money.

The car isn't from a VW but a Peugeot/Suzuki main dealer, would it be unreasonable if say the alloys were kerbed to expect them to refurbish before sale, I'm only going by the photo's but one wheel looks to have been kerbed :|

Out of the three you've linked to in the original post I'd say the Polo no question.

In general however I'd say Polo or Fiesta. I had a fiesta zetec as a courtesy car last year when the focus was in for work (pre-zed) and I was really quite impressed. A few friends have or have had a polo and only ever had good things to say about them. A previous work colleague had a swift sport... always said it was a great little car and good fun to drive, however it made regular garage visits, and I seem to recall I wasn't impressed by his mpg figures albeit I can't remember what they were now.

If it was my money I'd porbably go for a Polo, but the Fiesta does offer very good value for money. In fairness I've only really had the one (negative) exposure to the swift.
