such a cool car!! ALWAYS wanted one, and OP this is a great way to get your modding kicks done, build to a super high standard and enjoy enjoy!

i was side by side with one a few weeks back, it was immaculate, i peeped the forged rims, large intercooler, TI exhaust and the car just looked better than anything else i saw on the road that day, super cool cars... That engine as well is a classic, 2jz just = WIN!

been dragging my heels on the supra and have had it sitting there thanks to new cars/new houses and whatever else decided to get in the way - spontaneity hit me today so stripped the plastidip off.. then started sanding.. to see what lay beneath the crappy matte black spray job.. Ended up going full retard.

Image

then got carried away and it's turned into a full bare metal respray

Image

Many more hours of rough sanding and then final sanding to go. A nutty part of me likes the idea of a polished metal and carbon finish but I'm leaning towards laguna seca blue or a deep burnt orange. Haven't seen one in LS so really curious how it could turn out with lashings of carbon etc. I want the final product to be something unique rather than the millions of supras you see in white or black.

Front fenders will be carbon just because, as will the bonnet. The veilside front is genuine but it's fairly heavy. so may do something there, or just go for a carbon splitter and valances. getting fairly excited about it again so going to spend a while sanding my life away.

Not sure if I'm going to have it road legal or just as a track / promo car just yet, the latter being far less headachey here.

Spent the rest of the day adjusting some interior bits

Image

And tweaking the leather that I recoated the dash with. The fascia will be.. you guessed it.. Carbon :)

Image

Also found some Alpine X type two way speakers lurking beneath the doorcards :D Ripped em out and had a look on the website to see they had a $900 price tag. They'll be going into the porsche / on gumtree at some point, if I sell them it will take the net cost of the car down to $50 considering the parts I've already sold - can't argue with that..

Not sure how I have missed this!!
Cracking looking car and they are great cars to work on.

You have quite a rear beast thereTT with the 5soeed. The gearbox on our car has been the biggest problem. I was working until 2 this morning on it.

I think there should be a supra area on hear there lots who have them or have had then.
My little blue zed is in lots of bits. With lots of things started and not many finished! I may have found the limits of my time and ability!!

Very easy to work on for sure!

Going by the VIN it was a na that someone dropped a TT into - so the W154 5 speed - I got rid though as it just wouldn't handle the power I'm looking for..

What was the problem with yours?? What box do you have in it? I'm going to for a 6 speed Getrag from the TT I think, they're generally pretty bulletproof

The paint job was deffo a rattle can job, which was wierd as the car was black to start with! did see some scratches to the rear so maybe they just thought sod it and went over the whole thing

Yeah it's crazy why anyone rattle cans a car on there driveway is beond me. Ours was done the same they probably shared the same gean puddle

Those 6 speed boxes are not cheap!! And are hard to come by. Witch is why we are not using one. They are strong and good though. We are using a five speed Bmw ZF box. And we have the Lexus 4.0l v8 in the car.

Our project has been a year in the making but hopefully finished in the next few weeks.

Can't wait to see the finished product MM! I don't have your fab skills so mine will be much more off the shelf!

Would love the lexus lump for some more effortless torque as much as I love the 2J. Yeah I've given in the the fact that I'm not going to see a 160/161 for sub $5k

Part of the reason why I've decided to go full pelt with the paint job rather than the original idea of plastidip or vinyl (not that it will stick to the can job!!) Figured the box will cost almost as much as the motor in parts, then paint on top

Too right sail, I actually love them stock (although a well executed wide kit also looks pretty sweet!) I think I want to go the relatively subtle approach for sure

Finally back onto this project after some much needed focusing on hte business..

Have decided a controversial paintjob which could end up looking great or absolutely shite

a bit like this

Image

I like gunmetal supras, so figured why not go for a fully hand sanded and polished finish, complete with carbon fiber wings, spoiler and bodykit.

Image

Image

Will need to be highly polished to lacquer and look good. Not sure exactly how the bodykit would blend in without looking tacked on (the supra has a very obviou, vertical fit line for the rear bumper)

I think with some mirrors like this it could look good Image

Cheers, slowly but surely coming together :D

Stripped and with some horizontal sanding and it's getting a nice brushed steel look which I'm actually liking over polished as it looks too much like the chrome wraps that everyone seems to have lately.. but will keep on tinkering.

A day of sanding and lost fingertips and she's more or less naked :)

Rear bumper, front bumper, wings and spoiler will call be new /mostly carbon fiber components :)

I will get the link to the ones we used. They where good quality and fitted really well. And the rear over arches make the rear end look so much better.
