My New Project - E36 M3 Evo Touring
Loving the E36! I'm sure they're going to be the next craze, after the e30s. You hardly ever see them on the road!
With regard to the M4, that's how i felt after an afternoon with one when they first came out. It was more how I imagined an i8 to be in terms of the feeling, and on the flip side having spent a fair bit of time in an i8, the i8 felt more nimble like the Z If that makes sense
Is the E36 a keeper then? Any plans after the m4 already?

Only a few, but as requestedhopz121 wrote:Interesting project,
Not sure how I missed this before.
Do you have some pictures with the new wheels/coilovers fitted?
How are you finding the car compared to the Z4?
Ash
I haven't had a chance to drive it hard just yet, especially not since the springs have fully settled, so I need need to adjust the damping and ride height, but my inclination would be the sit the front down slightly more and slightly raise the rear. We'll see how it goes.
Having stripped approx. 60kg out of the car so far it is pretty quick. Still not quite Z4M quick, but not far off.
In terms of handling, this car gives me one big smile the whole time, its a bit of a loose cannon. The rear is very lively (might change with the welded cage acting as ballast), but it's a great drive. The S50B32 is a great engine, I miss the raspiness and responsiveness of the S54, but I'm growing to love the older engine. Just being a BMW NA straight 6, it's a joy to drive!

Yeh, the E36 (barring any calamitous financial troubles) is a keeper. As with any track project, I'm piling far more cash into her, than I'll get out.-Tom- wrote:Loving the E36! I'm sure they're going to be the next craze, after the e30s. You hardly ever see them on the road!

No real plans yet for after the M4. I'm hoping the M2 CSL becomes a reality and will be trying to get my name down of the waiting list, else I might go back to a nice example of a Z4M.
I'm commuting by train these days (the M4 was purchased as a daily), so a Z4M would make a perfect replacement...and I really do miss mine.

Thought I'd update this post, as it's been a while.
I didn't actually get round to making too many mods this year, it was more a summer of enjoying the wagon on the road.
Direction has changed slightly. I've decided against creating a track car (never did get her out on the track). The steering input with the coilovers is so much fun, and as being such a pretty little thing, I've decided that a road-based sleeper for weekend hoons is a much better place for her to be.

awesome - would love to see this.
It's funny how this kinda car can be a daily, a track toy AND be practical weekend fun. It's oddly one of my favourite bimmers - mum had a green saloon when i was a kid and i thought it was the dogs danglies.
Someone just wrote off my C63 so i'm currently perusing 'practical fun' on autotrader. Probably gonna end up being an m135i but also tempted by an LCI E91 335i and some choice mods.

OP, your E36 M3 Touring is just fantastic! It must be a hoot to drive!
I'm sure I've read a thread on another forum about an E46 M3 Touring, and I think someone was building an E91 M3 complete with V8!
I admire anyone with the combination of vision, skills and cash to make cars like that happen. I think it is great that they exist!

Cheers Guys, yeh it's a fantastic build (most of which I can't take any credit for).
and yep, Alex featured it on Car Throttle last summer.
The guy who was building the E91 M3 (supercharged too) actually built this one too.
Unfortunately, he wrote his E91 off a couple of months bacl. Rear-ended on the motorway, shunting him into stationary traffic in front. Not a pretty sight.
I'm in the process of moving house and trying everything I can to not have to release cash from this.
I'll give my M4 back before I let this one go. A much more involving and grin-fest of a drive
