X5 7str 35d experience?
We had a 57 plate E70 3.0 X5 which we loved but as 99Ron says there were a few niggly issues. With ours at 115k was starting to wear down the reslove. I'm all for treating issues as opportunities to learn but it started to mar our ownership. Everything 99Ron says I agree with , in addition our driver side door lock started to fail meaning my wife had to hold the door closed! Only on cold frosty mornings, the rear light water ingress, £287 from BMW - £50 off ebay . The rear view mirror on passenger side angled down for kerb view when reversing, the motor failed in that. There's also uneven tyre wear issue with the inner edge of the tyre wearing on the fronts. If you have a look on the Xdrivers forum you'll no doubt pick up all the goods and bads, for me the deciding factor was the £500 pa road tax

Don't like them, plus the lure of 300bhp+ and decent handling means they and the Q7 are out..Hilly30si wrote:Hi Mike

Missed your post here Mike, so did not respond to your question on the 35d which I see was already answered anyway.
I think you are looking for a newer car anyway, so that roadtax issue of £500 is a very small part of X5s that were produced during that year, the rest is all back to the £230 or whatever the normal rate is.
With the 40d, I just love the power, and endless amount of it as well. Only taken it to Germany once, but it pulls in a straight, never ending performance line, up to 155mph in no time. On my trip last week to NL, I drove about 90 mph the whole time getting about 33 mpg.
I am not aware of any car in that class that gets anywhere near that performance / comfort. Mine is a M-sport, but with 19" wheels (runflats) the drive comfort is a lot better than my E53 on 18" (without runflats).
Even though the Land Rover range is great for what they are, but I never enjoyed driving them as they drive like vans rather than cars (I did have one for two years).

Not exactly the same car but we have the f25 x3 35d m sport. Only had it since september but it is a great car, we looked at the x5 but didn't really need the extra size as the boot didnt feel that much bigger.
The engine is great, the power in sport mode is instant and it flies when you floor it. The economy is quite good too when you consider the engine size.
I don't think you will be disappointed one bit if you buy one

Id test both the 30d and 35d and see if you can feel a real difference- as if not it will widen your search. Depending on your budget you should also try an F15. See you on xdrivers

Pretty much got my mind set on a 40d now, if I went for one of the others, I'd only be wanting more...paddy wright wrote:Id test both the 30d and 35d and see if you can feel a real difference- as if not it will widen your search. We've got a E70 X5 40D M Sport. Not mine (my fathers). He loves it. Plenty of power, looks the business, plenty of options too! Like the front and reverse cameras! Only thing we're considering doing is getting a set of winter wheels. Annoyingly they got rid of the spare wheel and changed tyres to runflats. More space in the back than the E53 but not sure it's more comfortable. Right PITA to keep clean as its white!

Thanks for the heads up! You talking about the 19's? There in Cumbria! A little bit out of our way! I'm searching frequently on eBay and gumtree for them ideally within 50miles as we're quite close to London (more people, so hopefully more chance) and then repeat with 100mile radius. Missed a few good ones but hoping to grab a steal soon as winter is coming to a close. Thanks again tho!Nictrix wrote:Check out Xdrivers, there is someone selling a set of winters that look almost brand new.kis wrote:We've got a E70 X5 40D M Sport. Not mine (my fathers). He loves it.
