Almost went down this route in 1994 before deciding on Subaru WRX - what was I thinking!

I nearly had one of these but ended up saving a bit longer and getting a 225 TT instead. Having said that i'd still like its replacement a 500 Abarth or 595 one day, i hear they are like a go-kart to drive

I was going to trade in my Dolomite Sprint at the time but after the salesman took her for a test drive he told me the gearbox was on the way out and some other crap (or so I thought) to offer a lower trade in.
Anyway, I got the insurance quote and went white.
6 months later I sold the Dolomite privately and within 2 weeks the exhaust had fell off and the gearbox packed up....
Very lucky escape with the Lancia though I think
You're smarter than me. I bought it. Bad idea.

I got very interested in Fiat X1/9's, I don't think the styling for the time was too bad but I had doubts surrounding the build quality so gave up on the idea.

Lol - I had an X/19. it was the underpowered 1300 4 speed and to top it off it was ex-California so LHD and God-awful picket-fence front and rear bumpers.TonyP wrote:I got very interested in Fiat X1/9's, I don't think the styling for the time was too bad but I had doubts surrounding the build quality so gave up on the idea.
But, it was rev happy and so much fun to throw around corners being mid-engined and low. It suffered from the usual Fiat electric issues, but at least had (almost) no rust thanks to its previous home.
Can't say I regret owning it, it probably sowed the seeds to get me into a Z4 today

Almost fell heart over head for an Aston Martin at a very cheap price, but the low oil pressure when hot saved me from a perilous money pit!
Also came close to a Jensen Interceptor, but would have been an impossible DD !!

Have a friend who is a classic car restorer, and former chairman of Aston Martin OC. Interestingly, a lot of the older Astons (mechanicals) were bitsa's, and can be repaired fairly cheaply if you know what you are doing.jack07 wrote:Almost fell heart over head for an Aston Martin at a very cheap price, but the low oil pressure when hot saved me from a perilous money pit!

In 1964, I was driving a 1963 Morgan 4/4 while in Germany with NATO forces (Canadian Army) and I went to Dortmund to look at a nice Lotus Super 7 which had all the required roadgoing parts which had never been used. In other words, this was a full time track car, with a very good winning record. I almost bought it, then realized that it would not be practical as a daily driver. After being overcome with common sense, I went home without it.

Well at least you would have had a roof over your head instead of a tent if the Mrs had kicked you out (and she should have)! After all you can't buy taste!...........!Yorkie Z wrote:I really dodged a bullet, I almost bought a BMW Z4 coupe looking back I would of felt so trapped in one of those ugly things
