The cars your glad you didn't buy.

I remember when I was much much younger I always wanted a sports car. So which one was it I here you asking.

The Nissan 100NX.

I saw one today in decent nick too. What a horrid plain looking thing it is.

What was I thinking. :?

So my question to you good folks. Have you ever wanted a car, then seen one a few years later and thought. I'm glad I didn't buy that.

Nissan 350z. Chose an older E46 M3 instead.
350z would have been.....a mistake.

Almost bought an MGF ... Whilst awaited a test drive I drove an MX-5 , I couldn't believe how bad the MGF was in comparison when I eventually drove one.

Back in the late 70s I looked at a Jaguar 420 that was being sold by a friend of a friend, but it had some serious rot so I gave that a miss!

Then I looked at a Fiat 124 Spyder. Lovely looking car, but they were all LHD and this was a tired one at a back-street trader's "premises" in Streatham - probably a money-pit!

Then a year or so later I looked at a Fiat 130 Saloon - great car, but this one wasn't!

As you can tell, I had a Fiat thing going on at the time!
Coupes because stunning!

Gone - Ruby Black

Back in the 80's (yes I'm that old) I nearly bought a Lancia HPE (High performance estate) The strap line was "it could carry a ton and do a ton" or something like that.

I was going to trade in my Dolomite Sprint at the time but after the salesman took her for a test drive he told me the gearbox was on the way out and some other crap (or so I thought) to offer a lower trade in.

Anyway, I got the insurance quote and went white.

6 months later I sold the Dolomite privately and within 2 weeks the exhaust had fell off and the gearbox packed up.... :(

Very lucky escape with the Lancia though I think :)

I really wanted an RX8 when they first came out. I would still like one despite the well advertised issues. Glad I didn't as they have taken a real price hit and I would have lost a big chunk- think they were about £15k when I was looking.

Don't know what you mean. In 10 years of ownership, mine cost me just less than 22k in repairs. Not including normal running costs. :P

I'll take the rose tinted specs off one day.

I so wanted a Renault 15 or 17 back in the late 70's - Perhaps not surprising as at the time I was driving a red Renault 12 (don't ask)

So glad I got over that and never did buy either :)

When I was a finance manager at a Fiat dealership back in the late 90's, I had about half a dozen of these as my demo's. Last one being the Special edition (they had all been 20v turbos) What a car at the time!
