M140i Vs M2 Dyno
Interesting thread on babybmw and some stock dyno comparisons
http://www.babybmw.net/viewtopic.php?f=74&t=93627
Very little in it performance wise and just shows how good the B58 engine is in stock form
Would still love an M2 though but the 15 odd K over the M140 is not really worth it for that little extra handling
Tim.

I guess the difference is even greater when discounts come into play. Makes it increasingly difficult to justify the M2 for the average Joe. But for some image is priceless I guess. I know a few M2/4 owners and they openly admit they will never use them properly, its all about image and knowing you have the range topper.

I think you are right MACK but shows how mainstream BMW models have now come perilisly close to the M models, I think years ago this wasn't the case where spending the extra was worth it. I might be talking rubbish thoughMACK wrote:I guess the difference is even greater when discounts come into play. Makes it increasingly difficult to justify the M2 for the average Joe. Interesting results, I am seriously contemplating a M240 and have been doing some research myself. The salesman at the dealership even said it is hard to justify the extra 15K and increased running costs and road tax. Good video comparing M240 vs M2 with side by side tests towards end of video. https://youtu.be/cphuMPNcdTY

Its interesting, can you imagine if the N52 engined 3.0Si E85/86 came with a 300-320BHP engine out of the box. I think that would have seriously impacted M sales considerably, especially those folks who would never drive it at the limits/track it. The M was circa a £10k premium new, hell it still is at 8-10 years old!TitanTim wrote:I think you are right MACK but shows how mainstream BMW models have now come perilisly close to the M models, I think years ago this wasn't the case where spending the extra was worth it. The motor industry can be a funny place, I remember when Porsche launched the Cayman and wanted a £5k premium over the Boxster. Every other manufacturer charges a premium for the Cab not the other way round! Still they got it and its just as popular today!

Driving is about having fun and testing your metal, going around corners. IMHO. It's not about how fast you can accelerate in a straight line. Interesting comparison though.

Well last month I went down to the dealers, was offered a M240i @ £350 per month - but a M2 was £750 over 4 yrs.
Thats £19,200 more!

I can't remember what the customer contribution is at 350 per month, not much, on the M2 its around 7K and £560 per month when I enquired at the time. I just felt it was way too much over the M140i, I know its an \\\M and all that, but still.Twin Turbo wrote:Well last month I went down to the dealers, was offered a M240i @ £350 per month - but a M2 was £750 over 4 yrs.
