M140i Vs M2 Dyno

Post by SO8 » Sun Jan 01, 2017 3:52 pm

Having looked at the M135i before my A45 AMG, if the M140i was about I would probably own one - the lure of 4wd against the noise of an in line 6 would not have won :D

Looking at the figures posted - as far as I can see the A45 would be slightly quicker to 60 and to 100 ... but after that the M140i takes over. It is very quick. The 0-200kph times seem to be about a second quicker than the A45 at 14.6 versus 15.6 for the A45. The poor Golf R is down around the 18 second mark I believe. So, in the real world in the UK there is little difference but a much nicer noise with the M140i than the other two.

If I was looking now I think I would be tempted by the B58 engine in the 340i ... with a power and sound pack to take it to 360bhp. Now that would be fun. 0-62 is quoted at 4.9 but I bet it feels and sounds fun and really gets going after 60 ...
Current : BMW M240i Convertible in black and a Smart Fortwo diesel in white :)
Previous : BMW 35iS in Mineral White and an Mercedes AMG A45 in black

The B58 is certainly a storming engine with that increased torque over the N55 and higher quality internals, forged pistons etc, it definitely doesn't sound quite as good though but more refined.

Yes but you cant compare a tuned car with a stock car.

The m140i in that clip has a 10hz gps speed timer in his car (I think a qstarz), so you can see very accurately his acceleration from 100-200kph.
In the last set that was 11 sec flat.
