MX-5 RF impressive folding roof

This is one neat folding metal roof  albeit a 'Targa Top'
Thought it was a hardtop - very clever lines and folding mechanism

Still only 158 bhp though  but I guess that's the MX5 way

I like them, so much better looking than the previous incarnation-it's got a hint of Elise about it at the back.
Still a step below a z4 though & the hairdresser jokes never stop do they? :?

they might be low power but with the little weight they're a lot of fun! typical mx5! :) NC was the fat one while ND is great, as every reviewer says.

it's one of those cars that's "slow" yet feels fast and fun because it's so light weight and easy to throw around.

I do not know if I like the RF though... just doesn't look right from certain angles.

The best mx5 to date in my opinion. Not sure I'd want to 'downgrade' in terms of build quality and power any time soon though.

Can't work out if I like the RF top or not, it isn't quite full fat convertible to me as you still have the pillars at the back behind your head. Great for the grimey British winters though!

z4's probably have the "worst" build quality out of all BMW's haha ! especially compared to e39 for example, interior wise that is.

MX5's are solid, plain but solid.

That's quite a nice looking little car, dare i say it has a hint of the f-types lines to it?
The roof folding mechanism looks very clever. I'm guessing it'll be a fun to drive little thing, just a shame it will never have the grunt or sound of a bigger engine.
It's also got a whippy....

When I was looking at buying my car I was stuck choosing between the mx5 and the z4, one for the head and one for the heart.

I obviously went with my heart.

I think the mx5 you could have loads of fun without risking your licence.

I really don't like the latest incarnations of the MX-5. A chap a few doors away has a burgundy soft-top and I've looked at it from all angles and I think the previous shape was much more attractive, perhaps the best looking of all the MX5s IMO. The newest shape is tiny, under-wheeled and just too 'feminine' for my tastes. There is also a fussy, retro Jap vibe about it similar to the Toyota GT86 which doesn't float my boat either. I just hope there is no Toyota styling influence in the new Z5 Roadster/Coupe.

The Mx5 looks better in pictures than it does in the flesh. I saw a targa top one yesterday and the roof line looked too tall for a short car.

I agree with this.
Its odd about it not looking as good in the flesh but several members had said the same thing. I've not seen the RF in 'real life' but there's a soft top that visits a few doors down and walking past it I have to agree with much of what patriot66 said (not about the GT86 though).
I will be interested to see if its the same with the RF.

Bigger body and bigger engine and it might have been a winner.
