thinking of selling the 5 series - unsure
as in the title but...
the 5 is the best all round car I've ever owned, 62 plate, 520D m-sport touring with a couple of extras. Just under 35k and in tip top (not quite showroom but not far off) condition. Do about 9000 miles a year averaging 50.4 mpg (computer) insurance is £240 and tax is £140ish. I own the car. To my mind this all represents pretty good value near luxury motoring. The boss likes the car too.
We have a 8 month old 420 convertible, a couple a classics, the Z and (shhhh) a mini countryman (tip car) and really don't need that many motors for just two of us. Trouble is the one we 'need' least is the 5 as between the others everything is covered. Nice car for longer journeys - 420, bigger space - Countryman.
I've had a look at dealers franchised and un-franchised and recon the 5 is worth somewhere between £14 and £16k now and maybe £2k less next year when I retire.
So, sell now and pocket the cash, keep it and sell it when I retire, just keep it forever.
decisions decisions...

Wow that is a lot of cars! Nice predicament though
I understand your feelings towards the 5, my F10 530d is easily the best car I've ever owned. Even with the Zed and MX5, I still love driving the 5 series.
If it was me, I would loose the countryman (assuming it's a modern car) and you could afford the depreciation on your 5 series. Failing that replace the 5 series with a Z4M Roaster

I might be interested in the 5 as I'm not keeping the Merc ... I'm picky on colour and spec tho... care to share any more detail?

its sophisto grey with oyster interior. So dark metallic grey with cream leather. M sport, 19 inch 351 alloys, sport auto (flappy paddles) Advanced business media anthracite dash. Visibility pack (auto main beam and see round corner headlights) and extended storage (boot lash points)
if you want a full run down pm email and I'll photo the spec sheets and the car
still haven't decided though - its a lot of car for the money...

My F10 was great, felt invincible in it, always wished it had the M engine though
Quite literally able to drive 400 miles and get out the other end feeling refreshed.
God I miss it given my current commute in the JCW.
Sophistico grey is lovely. Personally I'd just keep it if you don't need the cash to live.

Seems to me the obvious solution is to lose the Countryman and 420d and keep the 5 as it does both those jobs in one car.

420 is a keeper, first because it belongs to SWMBO, second because its a four seat convertible and third because its less than a year old, has loads of warranty and a service pack so will be 'cheap' to run for the next 4 1/2 years.
the countryman is useful in that its a 'no worry' car, small enough to fit into car parks, not bothered about where we leave it (sometimes go to some quite rough areas with high levels or vandalism) and its as big as we need to carry people and junk.

Then sell the 5, but it's a better car than either of them.

I love my 520d M sport and I'm now on my second.
An opportunity to buy a car you'll be delighted with for somebody
My 2011 F11 in Space Grey (with my first Zed) My second, a 2015 F11 in Titanium Silver and Zed to match !
The family bus, but still Oozes style and presence
