Mustang 5.0 yes or no
Waiting list aside & the daft second hand prices currently, but I'm seriously toying with swapping the JCW on its 2nd birthday for a Mustang, and it has to be the V8. It's a car I've loved for years, and the suspension improvements & RHD offer really appeal to me.
It's something 'special' to me, they're fairly rare & im wondering if that is what I need in a daily drive to keep me interested. My M even when it was a daily, never once fell into familiarity, always having something special about it & will still keep it for weekends.
I drove the E93 M3 & didn't feel moved by it, equally the new M3/4 isn't wowing me as a daily car option - mainly due to the speed required to engage with it. However, the more bulky, less svelte handling Mustang just seems to make me smile.
I commute now about 100 miles a day, but want something special-ish to sit in for the M4/25 commute. Too comfy and dull like a 5 series won't work for me, even if I can track down a 550i. Not massively concerned by mpg, as life is too short & if I were, then 5L of V8 wouldn't be appearing on the list.
Guess my biggest concern is that it's just a blue collar tang, but then I also love that fact too. Plus it starting a slippery slope of tuning and modification. Oh and that maybe blue with white stripes is a little too much

These are the dilemmas going on in my head. Can buy something more capable, but will it spark that special something with me. Equally, I'm buying a couple of tonnes of American pig iron.

That's the bit that really gets me going. I will miss the 'programmed' pops & bangs from the JCW but replace the boy noise with manly noise. Maybe even with another Bluetooth valves exhaust. Keep getting stuck in traffic with one of the M25, about the only time I shut my exhaust down and just listen to him as he pulls off.

I'd do it - if I had £40K to spend on a new car a manual 5.0 Mustang would be the only car I would consider!
If you do go for it please let us know how you get on.

You only live once. It isn't a rehearsal. If you can afford it and really want one. Go for it.

My neighbour has one and loves it,
Residuals are fantastic and I think he pays cheap tax as it's classed as an import , although he did have a previous model so may have been that
He has custom back boxes on his and it does sound great..
Servicing is cheap too
Looks great, sounds great, won't drop cash like a stone ...
Ok, build quality isn't German standard and handling is not what you call precise ..
I think they are a shrewd buy, my neighbour only lost £1500 on his last one over a 4 yr period...
He does mixed driving in his,but mostly commute and averaging 19 mpg

Thats the thing, what else is there....possibly an older C63 which has a little more preision, but loses something in doing so. Was amazed at how well the RS4s seem to hold value once they are over a certain age.
I know the previous one did class as one, not sure now they are RHD but will have a look.Z4M-2006 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 08, 2017 7:45 am My neighbour has one and loves it,

Interesting on the residuals, as had just assumed I'd end up taking a bath on it but without having really researched it - tend to buy cars to enjoy vs worry about how much I will lose enjoying them.
I wouldn't class my JCW as German standard, so am prepped for that , hoping the handling has improved with the new one as they have got rid of the cart springs in the attempt at modernity.

415bhp is no slouch and it will go well...
Its not in M3 or C63 territory but then again i dont think its a direct rival.
I think with sharp dealing you could be in a brand new one for £40k...i dont see it shedding cash massively, they seem to be doing very well.

If you are thinking of buying new then there is obviously a long waiting list and there is an updated facelift coming. Plenty of details online but worth a look as some prefer the look of the current one although the new one gets some upgrades.
