Wow !
Thanks for this post.
Yellow Angel Eyes do cheapen the Zed's front end.
Now we have a reasonable solution thanks to you.

Cheers Bumpy

Now to locate an overseas bulb supplier

Hey Mike.

It’s been a few weeks since you’ve fitted these LED’s.. how are they holding up?

Wow that looks to be a significant improvement! Is it an even illumination though? No large decrease in brightness as the distance around the ring from the bulb increases? Computer doesn't detect any bulb issues?

Nice and even. They are 200 lumen compared to the 40 or so of the standard bulb. No errors.

not to rain on your parade mike, but if you drill two small holes, the light can come out as a bayonet. Then replace with a bayonet led, saves on dremeling/soldering

Yup, was well aware of that, however I had these LED's lying around, and I wanted something brighter, so it was a no-brainer, no cost job.

Have you or anybody else tested a bulb like you linked?

My experience of unbranded eBay bulbs is that they are usually rubbish and don't last..

My reasoning on these is that if Halfords see fit to give them a 5 year warranty, the failure rate must be very low.

That's a fair call. But if a quality BA9 bulb is easier to retrofit than your option (which you yourself said was done simply because you already had some of the W5W bulbs) then it's surely the optimal solution?

Yeh, I've had the bulb I linked in for a year now and not had an issue, like Mike says it doesn't have five year warranty, but for the low price it's worth it imo! Much better than buying a £30 whole new side Light unit like bmw intended
