Side lights question

Post by Marlon » Tue Sep 12, 2017 2:05 pm

My side lights lasted just over 18 months - I put these whiter ones in at the beginning of last year:

Anyway, one has just gone and I have replacement bulbs (same make) to fit when I get home.

Question: Would you just replace the one that has gone or would you replace both working on the assumption that if one as blown and they were installed at the same time then the other is on borrowed time?

I'd change both and keep the old working one as a spare in your glove box.

I'd put some LEDs in and code out the bulb checks

These 'bright' white ones are known to have shorter lives - they do look good, see the comparison:

I'd also go LED. I put some canbus error free ones in and they've been fine. I know some people had issues but all well and good for me so far. It also helps them match the HID kit I've got installed, the bulb colours match.

Don't mention 'Canbus error free' - I went that route and had no end of problems, never again!

Marlon,
Did you have to do any coding for those OSRAM LED lights or did they just work as is when you installed them?

Yeah, did see your problems from last time. It's odd. I've had no issues whatsoever. Some do and some don't i guess even with exactly the same products. Gremlins in the wiring I tell you!

Strange, I never had issues in my original lights, sonars, or the facelift xenons I have now. I have the more expensive Halfords stuff, which I believe is made for them by Philips. Comes with a 5yr warranty, so they must be pretty confident.. They are also half the price if you have a trade card..

I ignored your advice and just changed the dead one and guess what . . . the other sidelight died last night

both went literally a week apart - who'd have thunk it

Halfords trade card, what a joke that is I'm surprised everyone hasn't got one.
You literally can make yourself a letterhead in 2 minutes, print it off, walk into halfords, show the staff and instant discount!
I was gobsmacked how easy it was when I got mine.
