Ok guys, zero knowledge of alloys so this may be a dumb question, but I’ve got a Z with MV2s on, and an e90 with MV3s.
Am I right in thinking that they’re the same size? (Both are the same tyre size)
I’m sure there’s a website out there that explains the dimensions but I can’t see it.

It’s the rears I need to check on as I want to use the MV3s on the rears of the Z for a short period whilst I have a crack repaired. (Balanced the wheel near the front so it didn’t roll downhill)

Cheers!

They are the same 8j + 8.5j width but slightly different offset , in actual fact the MV3 offsets work so much better on E85 Si Se so you may want to consider adding spacers to your MV2s after you see the others fill the arch better

I thought about asking you, Mr Wilks, but didn’t want to use you for random alloys questions. :D
Thanks!

Only using it temporarily - whilst the repair takes place, hoping a set of 224s magically appear from somewhere!

I run my zed with MV3s and they work perfectly, no rubbing or anything and as Mr Wilks says they fill the arches much better than the higher offset factory fit

Ok, cheers. So basically this means the car’s wheel base width will end up wider. Yep - not a clue here. :?

Wheel base and width are not the same thing. Wheel base is the length between the front and rear axles and width is called 'track'.

When you alter the wheel offset this also alters the track of the car.
I have MV3s on my Zed. The fronts are et34 and the rears are et37. These offsets bring the outer face of the alloys almost flush with the bodywork, increasing the track and improving the cars stance. No spacers required !

Looks like I named this thread accurately. Thanks for the lesson, much appreciated!
I assume my wheels will be the same as yours. They’re different front and rear on the e90.

I may have to look at this for the long term then, as they do look better. The wheel guy agreed today when I got him to swap it over, think the ferric grey helps too.
Funny thing is we’ve had the 3 series almost 8 years and the Z just 2 months (previous Z was on 108s) and when I showed my wife the pic and asked her which wheels she preferred, she didn’t know which were which - hadn’t a clue.
She also said she doubted anyone would notice the difference!?
Cheers!

So the wheel’s fixed and now I’m left with a decision to make.
If the MV2s go on the e90, then they’re going to look weedy on there. Hmm, really not sure. Appreciate you can get spacers for the e90, (not that I’ve ever done that) anyone know off the top of their head what I’d be looking at and best place to get them?

On another note, am I being precious? I paid £80 for a crack to be welded and this is how the wheel looked when they stuck it back on the car. Not sure whether my expectations are too high for a wheel repair shop!
Surely they’d want their work looking good as it drives away?

Yeah, they should have definitely cleaned the wheels up before you drove it away. That's just lazy imo.

Also, I'm a complete Alloy know-nothing too, so really interested in this thread to see what people have to say.

Reason being, I'm eyeing up an E89 purchase and the car has everything except the 19" 326s which I'd want to put on it instead of the 325s. I've often considered selling the 108s on my E85 and going for some CSLs but like the OP I know nothing about sizes and spacers and all of that, so no idea where to begin.

Well if you’re going to use my thread for learning, then maybe when you come to sell your 108s, you could do me a deal! ;-)

Do miss mine from my first Z4, considering 224s (awaiting a set to become available from someone), 108s would be my second choice though.

ive seen mv2's and they look odd on a e90 even when spaced out. I'd be tempted to get something suitable for the e90 & flog the Mv2s

I've got a good set of 108s on my Z4 - which will be coming off soon when I fit my winters.

They could be for sale, or I might do a deal for your MV2s - PM me if you might be interested, and let me know whereabouts you are!
