Seat belt replacement - anyone done this?

Post by Newbers » Sat Oct 14, 2017 12:01 pm

MOT failure yesterday on slow to retract passenger seat belt (same as it's been for the last 8 years that I've owned the car.....)

Has anyone replaced one before? Do I get to it from the cabin or the boot? Can't seem to find much online unfortunately.

I know one end fits to the base of the seat with a bolt (easy to get at) and goes through the clip on the top of the seat (Just unclips), can't help with the other end though.

Just managed to do it. For anyone wanting to know for future reference you access them from the boot (this is a Coupe BTW). My carpeted panels either side were already loose from when I changed my rear shocks so it was easy to pull away the carpet from the bulkhead then a large Torx screw (T45 I think) and the reel can be removed. I'm not sure if it was already loose or I dislodged it but there is a small guide on the top of the reel that was not in place. I clipped this back in and it all seems to work OK. Took about 15 mins. Still a bit slow and lazy but at least retracts all the way (hopefully good enough for an MOT pass)...

Thanks Mr Tidy. All a bit stressful on the MOT front. I took my other car (a Mercedes ML) in at the same time and they both also failed on a tyre. So Monday morning four new tyres and if I get back to the MOT centre by end of day they won't charge for a retest.
